And if next year is the same as this year?

To me, winning the west is par. Obviously speaking of next season specifically.

So lets say LSU finishes 2nd in the West and makes the Sugar Bowl (or whatever at large SEC bowl), do you think Miles should be canned?

Did we beat Alabama and Arkansas?

The question has been directed at "miles supporters" No less than 50 times this weekend. For those who offer no support to him, what result would allow you to accept another year? It's a tough question. We all want championship years every year, but I don't think saying a 11-2 season with a bowl win shouldn't result in being fired is settling for eternal mediocrity. That puts you in the discussion for most of the season most years.

That shouldn't matter if you truly believe,
quote:

If it doesn't work next year, it never will.

Unless I misunderstood you as implying "CFP or Miles is gone"

But lets say 2 scenarios:
1. Losses to Bama & Arky in November
2. Losses to Florida & only Bama in November
Would you want him gone in either scenario?

Stop. Just stop. He doesn't deserve next year any more than any one else in performance based jobs. He has has 5 years to get this ship righted. Saying he deserved 1 more year to get it right is just stupid.

I understand what you are saying, but we are not 11-2 nor have we been for some time now. At some point, not competing for an NC is going to hurt recruiting, especially if your main opponent (Bama) seems to be able to every year. What if those two loses are to Bama and Arky again next year? Do you not see how huge that is for recruiting Louisianna kids to those schools, especially if they are beat downs like they have been lately. Had we beaten Arky this year and at least held it close against Ole Piss, I don't think we would be having this discussion. Understandably, some teams are just going to beat you every now and then. It's when it becomes a trend that these same teams are beating you that it becomes a problem.

Would you?

What if the second scenario has us in the SECCG and we beat UF in a rematch and make it to 1) to the CFP or 2) just one of the big 6 bowls that we win.

What if the losses come from a perfectly executed and coached game that ends on a fluke or bad call by the ref?

These hypothetical situations aren't always clear.

I originally stated we finish 2nd in the West, so no SECCG. But in your example, obviously Les Miles wouldn't be fired in either scenario.

We had or may still have the potential #1 class for next year, despite being 4 years removed from contending for a championship. And the 11-2 record is speaking to next year. Obviously that's not the record this year.

The way it plays out next year could seal his future. The events of this month have given him a pretty clear mandate. I don't think we disagree. What we mat disagree on is what result will yield certain postseason decisions. It's not an easily predictable personal opinion, although it's easier now than it has ever been.

We are on the topic of Les so to say "getting the job done," and both scenarios you proposed [in my mind] get the job done, so no Les shouldn't be gone.

What I'm wondering is what BigEdLSU considers "not getting the job done" and where the line should be drawn.

Roger that. My point was the outcome of the season isn't always the same with the same record. If we go 10-2, we could be playing in the sec and national championship games, or we could be playing in the cap one bowl. It's hard to decide right now if your opinion on his future should be determined based on not only what LSU does, but what other teams do as well. At least if we are looking at it from the perspective of decision makers.

But that's why the specific scenarios were offered, to gauge one's opinion now.

I'm gonna rain on your parade. His mindset is wrong and won't work in todays college football. He turns top 10 recruiting classes into crap. Then all it takes is for them to get drafted and have the rookie mini camps and they become studs again. So it's his coaching that sucks and needs to change.

I'll let the op answer if he wants, but I'd hate to be beholden to that decision at this point. If your opinion in the last weekend is "if Auburn beats Bama, he should stay. If they don't, he should be fired," you might be looking at it wrong, regardless of the outcome.

Next year is the rallying cry of every elite team but one every year. Even Bama said "what until next year" last year. Stop being dull.

The difference is that they are saying "Wait till next year" because they get knocked out of the playoff by the eventual national champion. This was a season in which they, a defensive-focused program, had a converted RB at QB put up a season that was on par with our best offensive production in the modern era.

For us, "wait till next year" means that we luck our way into 10-2 and somehow disregard the other 4 seasons of utter mediocrity and gross underperformance that preceded it.

Maybe you should take your own advice about not being dull.
