Assuming we are unable to get either who is your reasonable #3 candidate?

I think Fedora at UNC would get a look.

You joke, but if I was AD I'd make his arse say no to 7-10m per year. Come home, Nick.

Not my #3, but just want to see what the board thinks of Todd Monken? His W/L records suck and if that's the metric then the only thing worth pointing out is the steady improvement at Southern Miss.

I'm taking your assumption one step further and say past Jimbo & Herman that we would not be able to pull a current head coach (of a Div I program). I know, all bad assumptions but for shits, giggles, and sake of argument.

My #3 would be the OC for Stanford (sticking to that assumption), Mike Bloomgren. And I know that many here will hate this, I like Willy Taggert. He had some very good balanced offenses at smaller schools; primarily his time at WKU.

Aranda
If he can get some good La guys (for recruiting purposes) on his staff, I'd be all for it.

Going way off the radar, Chad Morris. Need to see what he does the remainder of this year, but if he even gets SMU to .500 and Aranda stays, it would be better than what we've got.

So you say you want to assume that we cant pull a Div I head coach and then you throw out Willie Taggert, who is a Div I head coach, and not a very good one. His coaching record is 31-43 and he was fired from WKU. If you wanna go that route why not take the HC from WKU right now, Jeff Brohm, he is actually winning there. They finished 12-2 last season and 8-5 in his first season.

and no to Todd Monken, if for no other reason than he comes from the Les Miles coaching tree

Fedora would go to A&M before LSU. He is from College Station, family still lives in the area and his brother, who just recently resigned from Navasota winning 2 state titles in the last 4 years, have links to the university. That is if Sumlin doesn't get canned this year.

I just threw Taggert out there as Lagniappe. The "non-Head Coach" was Bloomgren, hence the parenthetical after him mentioning that was based on that assumption.

I will point out that I didn't necessarily believe those assumptions were true.

I was wondering that about Monkin, didn't research that one very much.

I'm not going to say records at schools such as WKU determine a coaches ability. It's a factor I'll admit. But his position coaching resume as well as OC positions. And I don't think he was fired from WKU. Skip Holtz was fired from USF, which then Taggert took over. I think what Taggert did at WKU was impressive. From 26 game losking streak to bowl eligible and bowl game in 3 years.

ETA: completely forgot about Brohm. Hated him at the 49ers, but definitely worth consideration.
