It’s consequences...good or bad
I’m a witness to an LSU football player (he of many, many) back in the 40s being paid, “under the table” to sweep the floors of a florist shop in downtown Baton Rouge when he couldn’t have found the shop with a car, a driver license and even knowing how and where to drive.
So, a long time ago I feared something like the NIL was inevitable. But between that and the portal I didn’t see the potential semi-pro wrecking ball that was coming to college football, and I dread it dearly. Yea, I may be a bit old for my age, but I'm also objective.

Another way of saying "Collegiate Free Agency"

Good thing we should always be a prime destination.

You witnessed something in the 40s? Are you 90-100?

I was born November 26 1930 in Eunice LA at the corner of Laurel and 8th street. I was 92 last month. At 16 I graduated from Eunice Hi and entered LSU in 1947. After a year there competing with WW II veterans I joined the Corps in Aug '48. Spent 21 years 27 months combat 2 wars in in the Corps.

NIL is a great thing. It's a terrific first step.

The Portal is has too few regulations.

In theory and as first envisioned. It's nothing like that now, and is terrible.

Pretty impressive you can work a computer and get on tigerdroppings. My 76 year old grandma still hasn't figured out text messaging.

The way NIL is structured, you may as well just have teams pay salaries.

It should have just been about guys being able to make a few bucks on the side.

Teams/schools should not be involved in any way - directly or indirectly.

I was at a party several months ago and met a retired college football coach who coached a national championship team. He expressed some concern about the combination of NIL and the portal suggesting that NIL should be on a team basis and the players who go through the portal should have to sit out a year without losing eligibility.

I like the idea of having to sit out a year but keeping the head of eligibility

I’m impressed. Don’t see many 90+ kicking around the message boards.

you're correct, and it has nothing to do with your age.

Everyone with a functioning brain could see that NIL combined with the no-sit transfer portal would turn players into free agents where players follow the money and jump from team to team. Good players being constantly poached by other teams.

Yes, it's ruined the game, and very quickly.

This would have been a really good compromise.

I just looked him up and he’s either doing a lot of research for a bit or he’s telling the truth
