Wait a second......................did you really go back FOUR AND A HALF YEARS and fish for a comment about the women's basketball program?

You got owned...just admit it. All this backpedalling/revisionists history makes you look weak.

Who cares? Own it, and move on.

I chuckle at the down votes given to our posts. Goes to show that rational and level-headed thinking is not appreciated around here.

I agree that potentially, if the season totally bottoms out and they only win 8-9 games total, then Alleva pulls the trigger. You are right...he has said that there is a priority on women's basketball winning and generating at least a little revenue....but the fanbase is dwindling and by the end of the year, all you will see at the PMAC may be tumbleweed and Patrick Wright calling more losses...

Does anyone know if Mitchell and Raygiene got a medical redshirt?

Yes. Both did. Moncrief will be a junior next year and Mitchell a freshman.

It's not horrible....13th best forward and 25th best point guard, plus a 6'5 kid from Canada. And LSU will have the transfers who sat out this year ready for next year.

I am not a Fargas apologist by any means and I am not taking sides at all, but the rational facts are these, and I have said it before: She isn't going anywhere after this season. She will get next year to try to figure it out. There will be enough talent here next year to get back to the NCAA's. Moncrief and Ayana Mitchell will be healthy and Chloe Jackson and Tatum Neubert will be eligible. That should be 4 starters right there. The players who are getting minutes this year will return to their regularly scheduled spots on the bench and will be role players like they were supposed to be in the first place. I don't think anyone on the current active roster starts next year, with the possible exception of Rina Hill, who will be a senior point guard.

It is hard to take down a coach who has been to the NCAA tournament all 4 of her previous years and who has lost the 3 best players on the team this year, plus a key post reserve.

I am not saying that the recruiting has been great and I am not saying that I totally agree with relying on so many transfers. I am just saying that she won't get axed this year and will get next year to try to rebuild the team's record and the fanbase with what should be a much more talented team that what we see right now.

I have also seen the argument that "Caldwell has totally demolished what Sue and Pokey built". Um, no...she didn't inherit what they built....she inherited what Van Chancellor left her, which was a decent program, but not an elite one. It has been a 2-stage demolition....

I am not arguing for or against....and I am not happy with where the program is, but I think the coach gets next year based on the talent that will be here, and no NCAA = new coach in 2017.

WOW! A voice of reason among this lynch mob.

The level of her failure makes Trent Johnson seem like a hardwood legend.

Lie much? This year is bad, I agree. Where was the failure in the first 4 years? Four NCAA Tournament appearances and a couple of wins in the first 3 appearances?

She won initially with Vans players and her inconsistent personnel decisions and re ruitment of head cases cost her dearly. WBB is not a sport like the mens, most teams have equal talent with a few getting the exceptional talent. Coaching matters. She needs to go. There is no excuse for the teams she has put out the last two years.

Are you claiming she can't coach?

He's also dead wrong. Any talent disparity is huge in WCBB and it's the primary reason there's so little parity in the women's game.

All you idiots that are clamoring for Nikki to go are just bitching to bitch. You don't even care about WBB and you wouldn't even post if they were winning. Sorry arse losers.

Whoever is blaming coaching clearly is a moron and hasn't kept up with this WBB program lately. Its the recruiting and talent issues. We have none. In WBB talent literally trumps everything else. So as good as she can game plan and make in game adjustments, it won't change the fact that we will never be able to hang with any top 20 team with the current talent of this team.

I said they'd be winning championships...........which at the time it appeared that's where we were headed..........what exactly is the point of bringing up that post?

You implied I was lying. That repost was proof that I was not lying, while at the same time, it exposed you as a liar.

It also goes to show how spectacularly wrong you have been on issues inre women's basketball at LSU, AD finances, and Caldwell, in general.

quote:
she was STILL worth the $700k/year that she was paid. At the time that was the market and that's what we needed to pay. The fact that it appears it isn't working out, is irrelevant..

Nope...................there's nothing that I've said about coach Caldwell and the WBB program that has been "spectacularly" wrong. In fact, since I actually follow the program I'm pretty sure I know much more about it, the "AD finances" and coach Caldwell than you appear to know. You're just some guy who peeks into the threads about WBB every once in a while, and tries to give his uninformed opinion about it.

Again, if you're not gonna post the link to the ENTIRE thread, then you're just randomly pulling quotes outta the air. Please come back on this thread when you actually understand what it is you're talking about.

However, I do still stand by the fact that the coach was worth the contract that was given to her. It appears that you seem to want to be a revisionist and say she wasn't, based upon the fact that she hasn't taken the team to the final four. Well, it don't work that way Sherlock. The MARKET determines what coaches are worth. If LSU had to do it all over again, and she (or any other coach for that matter) had the exact same resume she had at UCLA, she would STILL be worth what we offered at the time.

It sucks that it hasn't worked out. But that's the chance you take when you hire ANY coach. So now, LSU has a decision to make. Either keep her and allow her a year to try and turn it around OR................buy out her contract and go back on the market for a new coach. But keep in mind, if you're desire is to have an elite basketball program, you're STILL gonna have to pay close to $1 million. If you want to have a program that is a perennial top 25 program, but regularly gets eliminated in the sweet sixteen or earlier, you CAN indeed get a coach for less than that..............considerably less.

We went to four final-fours in a row and now we are here. Hire Kim Mulkey now.

Yea, okay.
She's making $1.1 million per year and is signed through the 2017 season................not to mention she's a LaTech grad. How much do you think it will take to get her here from a program that she built from the ground up......? $1.3 million....? $1.5 million.............? I'm all for it. Then again, if folks weren't happy paying $750K for the last coach I'm sure they'll be thrilled when we pay twice that.

I don't understand why people are upset about the money. She seemed like a great hire at first, I didn't have any issue with the money thrown to get her. Now, did inherrit some talent and molded some great teams her first couple seasons. Now this is all hers, Moncrief really is the only SEC caliber player and we see a very clear downward trend. While coaching has been upgraded from Van to Caldwell, recruiting and player management have been beyond unacceptable.

We have a decent class coming in next year, nothing that will be future changing. Its decision time.

Personally, If I am paying someone a lot of money to do a job, if they aren't producing or improving, they should be fired immediately and I am not seeing the improvement with Caldwells player management and recruiting.
