People keep getting this whole thing of............"should we be satisfied?"..............as meaning if we're not extremely angry, somehow we think it's okay.

Its the same with the football team. I'm not "satisfied" with a 9-3 record and finishing behind Alabama and Ole Miss again, but that doesn't mean I think coach Miles should be fired. It's the same with coach Caldwell. I think having this "throw away" year sucks. We should NEVER have seasons like this at LSU. However, it is what it is. I DO believe that coach Caldwell should be given a short leash over the next year or so. I also believe it is POSSIBLE to turn it around. However, if we don't start seeing an improvement...............especially in recruiting.............then I'm all for letting her go and getting somebody else.

I agree with you on the most part, but with the success that our programs, I don't want to accept a throw away year like this one. I can accept a winning season as a throw away year, but it doesn't look like this will happen.

As a retired high school coach, I didn't get to recruit my players and talent ran in cycles. But I never would accept any season as a throw away year. Our goals were always set high and that's something I'm worried that I'm not seeing.

But since Miles was mentioned, his recruiting classes have been over the top. Nikki's not so much.

At least with Football, we had elite classes and have to ability to be something special. In this case for WBB, not so much. I think this is the main reason why many just want to be done with it now, not once has she brought in a top 20 class. I mean, Van wasn't doing so hot yet he had elite talent coming in. Its very frustrating. It would take a minimum of another three years of good recruiting classes, not average, but good recruiting classes to turn this program around. We just have no reason for an optimism on the recruiting trails, for 2017, lots of top prospects have already removed us as candidates in their choices. Recruiting can be tough but wtf is she and this staff selling. I mean LSU is a very good school, rich in history for WBB. It wasn't long ago we were going to final 4's. Top notch facilities and lots of oppertunites. Now, its a miracle if we can land a player with a pulse.

Comparing her to Les is like comparing apples and horny supermodels licking handsqueezed orange juice off of your naked body.

The level of her failure makes Trent Johnson seem like a hardwood legend.

I remember when you were saying this woman was going to be winning championships on the reg, and LSU would be happily paying her $1 million per year by now.

I talked to her before the season started and she knew this could possibly be a rough year, given some key injuries, but I don't think she expected this bad.

No, actually you don't. Nice try.

I DID believe that she'd be contending for championships when she first got here and that I wouldn't have a problem if they paid her that much afterwards. In her first year, she took a team of players that Van went 19-13 with no postseason the previous year, to 23-11 and an appearance in the SEC tournament championship game and NCAA tournament the following year. There was no indication that she would struggle recruiting or with player management, the way she has since. But at the same time, this has been her records since she got here...

23-11
22-12
21-13
17-14

........and she's made the NCAA tournament every year. So, although those records aren't eye-popping I doubt it warrants her being fired for one losing season. We'll see though. Like I'd said, at this point I don't mind either way. I think she could turn it around but, I also believe going out and getting another hot name wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing either. We're kinda at a crossroads.

From April 2011, right after Caldwell was hired, you said:
quote:

All the while, Nikki will be collecting her check and the team will be winning championships...............and sadly, when it's all said and done, you'll seem just like that guy in the video above.

So again, why not just enjoy the fact that the team has a great coach and that, more than likely this will equal a much better program and even more visibility for the university?......................................or maybe you think that that's a bad thing.

Either way, welcome to your new reality.
This is what $700K gets ya!

We could pay Nikki $1million/year (which we probably will within the next five years) and still have more than enough money to pay for cleanup.

She won initially with Vans players and her inconsistent personnel decisions and re ruitment of head cases cost her dearly. WBB is not a sport like the mens, most teams have equal talent with a few getting the exceptional talent. Coaching matters. She needs to go. There is no excuse for the teams she has put out the last two years.

Wait a second......................did you really go back FOUR AND A HALF YEARS and fish for a comment about the women's basketball program?

First of all, post the link to the entire thread when you do that. Otherwise there's no validity nor any context. Secondly, if I said they'd be winning championships...........which at the time it appeared that's where we were headed..........what exactly is the point of bringing up that post? And yes, she was STILL worth the $700k/year that she was paid. At the time that was the market and that's what we needed to pay. The fact that it appears it isn't working out, is irrelevant.............unless you're one of those folks who think you can get a championship level coach for $300K/year (you can't).

Some of you guys on this board really entertain me at times.

Last year's team doesn't need an excuse they went to the tournament and finished 4th in the conference.

Her contract was extended in the summer of 2014 to go through the 2018 season. Big mistake IMO by the AD. We lost in the first round of the NCAA's last season to a mid tier program like USF or UCF. We haven't sniffed the SEC championship for several years now and this year we will be lucky to win a couple of SEC games. Time to just call it a day with Cauldwell.

You implied I was lying. That repost was proof that I was not lying, while at the same time, it exposed you as a liar.

It also goes to show how spectacularly wrong you have been on issues inre women's basketball at LSU, AD finances, and Caldwell, in general.

I agree. If Pokey lezzing out is what it takes to bring us back the glory days, then by all means, bring the woman back! Seriously, would love to have our WBB team back to where it once was. What was it? 5 straight Final Fours?
