Saban knows that in the long run - he can’t compete with A$M and UT and it’s a matter of time before he becomes a not first tier destination when it comes to bidding wars… he needs to get reform done and he probably can
Side note - a guy at our country club owns a defense contracting firm and is a real high roller and lofe long VATech super fan - he said he was in a meeting with the collective VT is trying to start where he was told they need a million dollars a year from him minimum so they can be competitive- and the guy (rightly) said “I didn’t work my a$$ off my whole life for my family and kids to give 18 year old football players a million bucks a year” - this bidding clearly can’t continue indefinitely… eventually you are going to lose even the most ardent supporters who can financially back this system

Saban is worried. Bama bought every player they wanted but they can’t keep up with A&M. They make lots of money but when it comes to boosters who have millions willing to spend it on football Bama falls into the rest of the pack.

Alabama did not buy those kids. A BAMA booster bought those kids and sent them to Bama. And Ole Nick, being charitable and kind felt obliged to give them scholarships since they were already in Tuscaloosa
