Oddly enough, those projected backups are each former Purdue quarterbacks. In fact, one of them, Appleby, took the starting job from the other, Etling, while at Purdue in 2014. And, better yet, they both played under Davis’ old assistant, former Purdue offensive coordinator John Shoop. So, Davis called Shoop. “I asked him,” Davis said, “ ‘Do these guys have a chance?’ ” “John’s opinion … he felt like Etling would play in the National Football League,” Davis said this week. “ ‘This is a kid who can spin it. He would have started for us at North Carolina,’ ” Davis said Shoop told him. “That’s how talented he thought he was. He said, ‘Don’t be shocked if he plays on the next level.’ ”

Uh Oh. I'm getting too damn excited.

Am I the only one that still thinks we're fricked QB wise? Etling did nothing in the second half, his only completion was to another team. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the start but what in the frick is there to be optimistic about? Harris is benched? Really?

Barton Simmons said same thing when he transferred. Said he's played on horrible HS and college teams. Felt like Lsu would give him tools he needs.

Absolutely Not, we simply do not have the coaching in play for class after class of more than competent QB's.

I found it interesting that guys outside of the program and posters on the rant have diagnosed our problems, but our coach/es have not.

Miles is a QB killer. Where we are is all on him. He now plays scared and he needs to go and will. He won't let his QB create plays and he doesn't have a defense that will carry him. We will suffer this year but his days at LSU are over thanks and good bye.

Wrong go back and look at the game. I swear some of you people just look at a stat and say he did nothing. They dropped a lot of balls and we just didn't throw it much in the second half. The deep balls were good decisions I don't give a damn what Miles says. It was 1 on 1 with supposedly your best WR that is taller than the defender. If he plays the ball the way he is taught we are talking about great stats in the second half. The TE he hit got called back, the deep ball he threw to Guice which went off his finger tips should have been caught. There were actually two balls thrown up to MD that should have been caught. These incompletions make his stats totally different. You don't think he can improve off of that? You crazy if you think not, I personally think if they call the game right this will be a very difficult game for MS. May be the best game we've seen from LSU since Miles been here. He had better pocket presence than Mett and much better. He's going to be a good qb maybe great with the right plays called. GT

The answer to the QB problems seems easy. Just get Cameron and Miles the frick away from the offense.

Spot on. We should have been able to recruit top notch pro style QBs in our system, but our staff has been lazy and poor judges of what talents fit our system.

Danny Etling is a gunslinger style QB. Those types usually make more mistakes, but they make a hell of a lot more big plays and elevate all of their playmakers to another level. I'd trade one or two interceptions for three or four TD passes any day! If Miles tries too hard to contain him, we're screwed. A QB like DE needs to sling it at least 30 times a game in order to fully take advantage of his style of play. It'd also cause our TEs and WRs to feel more involved. That'd increase team morale.

You're wrong my friend. What game did you watch? He completed 6 passes. Of the 6, 1 was completed from under center. He had 6 attempts from under center and completed 16% for 5 yards. Don't forget he threw an interception and had a sack-fumble. We pass from under center 80% of the time. Stop pumping sunshine and truly analyze what really happened

Winston all day you have been in a very subtle way trying to shite on Etling just stop it. It isn't his fault or Brandon's Miles is a Dinosaur whose time has run out. The only regret is we will have to suffer through this season with him still calling the shots.
