Neutral Site Kickoff Games

I just read that Bama is once again playing in the GA Dome for a kickoff classic game. I think these neutral site games at the beginning of the season are a great idea for building strength of schedule, getting early exposure, and solving the issue of home-and-home deals that keep us from putting a good OOC opponent on the field against us.
LSU should look into doing them. Maybe play a game in Houston or Dallas against a Big 12 team like TX A&M. A&M used to be a traditional rival at the beginning of the year, and to be honest I miss it.

LSU has been trying very hard to do this very thing. Texas Tech - specifically Mike Leach - said no (which I guess ended up being a good thing given our defensive woes). Texas won't do it as it helps them none. Texas A&M might eventually, but they really wouldn't gain a whole lot either.
Think about it. Texas, A&M, and Tech don't really recruit Louisiana. Beating LSU doesn't help you with Louisiana kids. Louisiana kids are going to go to LSU if LSU is good, simple as that. However, on the other hand, LSU DOES recruit in Texas. So playing in Houston or Dallas ONLY helps LSU with recruiting in Texas, win or lose the game. If the Texas schools just play the game against LSU in Houston or Dallas, win or lose, LSU benefits in recruiting Texas. The Texas schoools don't get the same benefitis relative to recruiting Louisiana.
Although I agree with you and would love to see it, I doubt it ever comes to fruition with one of those schools ... maybe a game in Dallas against Nebraska could be arranged with our connections to Pelini, though. I could definitely see that happening ... or a game with Florida State in Atlanta at some point.

how much does alabama recruit in virginia? I would bet on slim to none. And if both teams are ranked high, you have lots to gain if you win.

That goes right in with my point. Virginia Tech and Alabama (and VaTech and LSU) are easy to schedule because LSU and Alabama don't recruit against Virginia Tech.
LSU vs Texas/Texas A&M/Texas Tech will not ever happen in Dallas or Houston. Tech has the most possibility of happening, but as long as Leach is there it won't happen.

Why play a neutral site when the greatest stadium in the history of the universe is in Baton Rouge?
Seriously, though, LSU should take the "there's a price tag on us" approach. If the AD can make more $ doing a neutral site game, fine. If not, no way.
