I saw two fights that stood out during my time as a student and later on after while a friend and I met for a drink in the 80s at the Bengal.

The first was Art Cantrell. All I can say is believe what you want to believe but this was one bad arse guy. It wasn’t the fact that he was the biggest it wasn’t the fact that he was the strongest it was just the fact that that guy can flat out freaking brawl. And it was nothing that you were going to do except kill the bastard to get him to stop. He was a strong as an ox too.

The second was Michael Brooks. Michael Brooks was minding his own business and two guys messed with him at the Bengal. He took the two of them, who thought they were bad asses, and threw them through stalls. Then the bouncers came and try just up to them him and he threw down like rag dolls. These were not small guys. He walked out.

Michael Brooks was a mean SOB.

Very much so!

Eric Andolsek would have beaten Cantrelle's arse

Then you don't know Eric. I'm not saying Eric couldn't fight, it took a LOT to push him into fighting. He was a gentle giant off the field. I still don't think Big E could have taken Cantrelle. Two completely different people. Now you would have never wanted Big E to get his hands on you for sure!

And he sucker punched him.

Probably why he went get a gun. See he left that part out of it. Someone gets sucker punched then all fairness in a fight goes out the window.

I can just tell you this. My cousin was about Cantrelle's size, 6' 200 and could bench 385 easily. He was a born fighter. I can't tell you the number of times guys from down the bayou came to Thibodaux just looking to fight him at the Foundry or Iron Horse. I never saw him lose a fight and he took down some awfully big dudes! What I'm getting at is that some guys are just natural born fighters. Either you have it or you don't. Some can learn it but you still have to have it within.

Shawn Jordan

This and no one else is close. Fighting has advanced so much in the last 30 years and Jordan was a UFC heavyweight. Being tough is one thing, being tough and a world class trained fighter is a completely different animal.

Eric was an animal , but not the type to bar fight . Atiyeh was a wrestler and was a bad dude . Bill Elko was a complete madman , saw him turn over a VW at fred's . I could go on and on . Broussard hall on weekends could be a hot mess .

I don't have any particular stories about him, but during the Billy Cannon era the guy everyone on the team was (supposedly) afraid of was Monk Guillot. That is per my dad who both tutored and worked out with some of the players at that time.

AC has all the legendary stories yet Rusty Domangue is the only player to actually stab someone in a bar fight while at LSU.

The legend of Art Cantrelle will live on forever... having known him while at LSU in the late 60's, I never knew a meaner sob when it came to fight time, whether down the bayou, on the Mississippi Gulfcoast, or in B.R.

Michael is another one that would not go looking for a bar fight , but he was definitely one bad dude . He was ripped with no body fat . Great guy ...

Drank a few with Nikki and his brother John . Never saw either looking for trouble . Bad dudes on field and pretty laid back off the field . Great guys , saw them a couple of months ago at a reunion .

Nicky Savoie was a stud and would definitely clean house

I vividly remember when Alan Faneca and the boys rolling into Sports back in the 90’s. Pounding the drinks and clearing the house. Them boys didn’t play around.
