Y'all have lost your minds thinking Furniss was anywhere near Joey/Albert Belle. May not like the guy but come on.
Earned three varsity letters in three seasons at LSU (1985-87) and led the Tigers to the school's first College World Series appearance in 1986.
Set the school career records for RBI (172), home runs (49) and total bases (392).
Tied the school record for career triples with 11 (with Tony Toups, John Morse and Mark Howie)
Led the Southeastern Conference in runs in 1986 (63), triples in all three seasons, home runs in 1986 (21) and 1987 (21), RBI in 1986 (66), and batting average in 1987 (.349).
Led the NCAA in home runs in 1987 with 21.
Tied the school record for hits in a game with five versus Louisiana College on Feb. 18, 1987.
A five-time American League All-Star (1993-97)
A five-time Sliver Slugger (1993-96, 1998)
Had perhaps the best year of his career in the strike-shortened 1995 season, when he led the Indians to the World Series and led the American League in runs (151), doubles (52), home runs (50), RBI (126), slugging percentage (.690), total bases (377), .

He belongs before Bregman
Now you've done it. People here think .337 is the highest career batting average in LSU history.

No. I don't. But I think the fall from Bregman to the next SS is further than the fall of Furness to another 1B/ DH is all.

As a college player, Furniss was phenomenal. Belle had a higher ceiling, but Furniss belongs in any discussion of LSU baseball.
On the same token, I'm throwing out Lane Mestepey. Dude was the college lefty version of Greg Maddox.

Dude, an LSU SS won the NL batting title last year and Furniss was absolutely not a DH. He was a very good defensive first baseman. Methinks you are a younger fan.

DJ was a big favorite of mine.

Tookie Johnson
Wes Grisham
Paul Byrd
Brett Laxton

Ok. I still think Bregman is that much better than DJ.
LSU has had some incredible 1B; plus Eddie DH'd a lot.
And it is a knock when comparing all around baseball players is all.

Is this a joke?

That u think Furniss was better than Joey Belle?

Albert Bell was a monster. So, I don't think he was joking.
A lot of answers are right by baseball logic and stats. Mine was just a guy that never quit and always seemed to hustle.
I liked watching Mathook play. But our history in baseball shows either none of the answers are right or they are all wrong.
