My point was that it might have also been a lot harder to compete in a much better conference.

I understood your point and its a valid one. Coker was less successful as the level of his competition became more stringent in the ACC. However I'm guessing the purpose of this thread is oriented to successful yet unappreciated coaches rather than their ability.

But you did make a good point regarding Coker.

This has been discussed 100+ times.

Coker had player/team problems that can't be found with Miles.

When the non-football actions of your football team are called out by the Governor of your state, you have serious problems that have nothing to do with W's or L's.

Did his downward trend record wise make his release easier to push/obtain? Yes, but forces wanted him gone for reasons that had little to do with his team's record.

The main difference between Coker and Miles is summed up in one word. RECRUITUNG Miami fell off the map in recruiting under Coker and it still shows up now.

.....and yet Miles and Coker still have similar records. alot of people are still waiting for Miles to start reaping the benefits of HIS recruits and get past mediocrity.

Be honest now, would that record be the same with RP.

I don't give Miles a pass on that because he is the one that put his eggs in the RP basket. But when the bashers point to the last two years, that has to factor in somewhere. I just do not believe the records are even remotely similar with RP at the controls instead of Hatch/Lee/Jefferson trifecta.

There are none between Miles and Saban either.

Saban 48-16 2 SECC, 1 BCSNC, 3-2 Bowls

Miles 51-15 1 SECC, ! BCSNC, 4-1 Bowls

Saban 30 victories and 7 losses (14 points or greater)

Miles 29 victories and 4 losses (14 points or greater)

That Miles guy just sucks.

Are you really comparing someone taking over a 3-8 team and rebuilding a team to National Champion status in 4 years to a man that took over a National Title contending team that was 9-3 (of which 2 of those losses were by 1 point or at the last second) loaded with talent?

People need to try to put things in perspective, I agree, but lets not try to compare apples to oranges here.

Hey, I'm waiting to find out what the Top 20 and "mediocrity" have in common.

The other loss you failed to mention was by 29 points. And if the kicker from OSU makes just one PAT it is 8-4. And by the way, we played 4 ranked teams that year and the only team we beat was Florida (Zooks Florida) by 3 points. How is that for "perspective".

Oh, and the final ranking for that National Championship contending team, 16. Sounds vaguely familiar in year 5.
