This has no bearing how Wade will do. Wade never coached under Smart. They are complete unique coaches

ETA: I should change it to say he didnt coach at VCU as his only stop. He went to UTC first. A completely different program not under Smart's control at all that he turned around himself

What issue at VCU make them bad coaches? Are they good, but get infected with some virus that make them bad?

Dana Kirk, although I think Memphis had to vacate pretty much everything he did.

Was he under Grant? I know he was an assistant at VCU before taking over at Chatanooga.

He coached under Smart for 4 years. However, I do agree that this fact has no bearing on Wade's future.

Anthony Grant ran Alabama into the ground (thanks!), Jeff Capel was horrendous at OU.

i truly hope that Wade breaks the trend if we hire him, i'm just skeptical of VCU coaches post-VCU

I think it is something to be considered, however Wade had success as a HC before VCU. Capel, Grant & Smart didn't have any HC experience before VCU.

But you're right, the track record hasn't been stellar. I still think Wade would be a low risk, potentially high reward hire. Especially considering the current state of the program.

Bottom line, will LSU hoops sell tickets with Wade?
It will be a wait and see approach for many.

To draw on a football analogy, I seem to recall a certain Bobby Petrino coaching under John L. Smith. Chris Petersen coached under Dan Hawkins.

I guess the point is, you can never really tell who is responsible (or if it were a magic combination of someones), but you hope you eventually get the guy who can make a new situation work on his own.
