Tom Herman was fired too soon at Texas.
He will succeed somewhere big.

Start with Fickell. If he can take Cinncinati into South Bend Indiana and beat Notre Dame, he has to be at the head of the pack.

REMEMBER, TOO THAT FICKELL SUPPPOSEDLY LOST THE BEST DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL AND HIS REPLACEMENT, MIKE TRESSSEL, SEEMS TO BE A GOOD FIT SO FAR THIS SEASON.......SO WE KNOW THAT FICKELL CAN MAKE QUALITY PERSONNEL DECISIONS..........

Yes, Fickell hired who I consider as good a DC as Marcus Freeman in Mike Tressell, who spent 14 years with Dantonio at Michigan State and always had a very rugged and suffocating defense with those 3* players. They haven't skipped a beat this year and if anything is even better... Fickell is a class act, good X's and O's coach and unlike someone named Orgeron surrounds himself with very competent assistants. Don't think he will leave Cincinnati though especially now that they are entering the BIG12 and he is refuted to being extremely loyal and family oriented...... AD Bohn (USC AD) wants him since he hired him at UC but he says he loves Cincinnati and his 3.5M contract is sufficient. Main obstacle seems to be his wife and 6 children and she has said they are not "a moving family" and adamant about staying in Ohio....To turn down SC, or even LSU will be tough, but according to a long story in USA today he is content where he is and money isn't his primary concern.

Meyer is a basket case
Kiffin failed miserably at his shots at 2 major programs
Mullen and Franklin are vastly overrated (have never won even a conference title)

I’m gonna throw a name out there that I haven’t seen mentioned.

Doug Peterson

I don’t know if he’s coaching anywhere right now.

* Super Bowl winning coach
* 2 NFC East titles in 5 years & 3 playoff appearances
* Andy Reid (Holmgren) coaching tree
* NFL QB
* Only 53, so not old.
* Louisiana ties:
- Married to woman from NorthLa. Lived in Monroe during off-season when he played for Green Bay, so he may still.
- Played @ ULM
- Coached @ Calvary in Shreveport
* Family man (Won’t be chasing 20 yr old tail)

Kelly’s agent will use USC vs LSU but USC cant or wont pay what LSU can for a FB Coach

Didn’t USC issue a statement last year they are placing less emphasis on athletics?

Mel Tucker
Mike Gundy
Corey Raymond

Based on LSU’s recent history, seems like one of those three would be a good bet to be the next coach

I agree... Had he not screwed LSU over Thanksgiving 2016, 2019 would have been his moment. He recruited Burrow at OH St and was super close. He gets the job and Burrow would have come to LSU for sure.

He will succeed somewhere. I agree.

Napier is 1a and Franklin is 1b from what is being discussed. Fickell wants Ohio St and would bolt from LSU if that opportunity opens.

Almost all of these are unrealistic, with the exceptions of Kiffin and Freeze. It's not Woodward's M.O., but I would like to see him think outside the box with this hire, like Arkansas did with Pittman. Do some damn research and don't just go with the big name or another Saban retread.

No Dave Aranda?

I’d definitely interview him, but he’s a complete introvert. Not sure that personality type will get it done here with recruiting, boosters, etc
Not exactly true. He definitely communicates different than every other coach ever (except for The Pirate). He's more of a teacher than coach in the manner in which he communicates. However, he is always in somebody's ear. Dude LOVES to "teach".

He is anything but an introvert. And I'll tell you what- because of his method of communicating with players and other coaches you rarely see players on the field confused as to what they are supposed to be doing.

What's board think about (names outside the normal lists seen here)....
- Narduzzi? (or even his DC- Randy Bates. He can bring Charlie Partridge)
- Jeff Grimes? (wasn't a fan as OL coach, but seems fine as OC)
- Kevin Wilson? (If you want an X&O coach- there you go, he's coached OL, TE, QBs, is an OC, has been a HC)
