After watching this game... I still have no fricking idea what we have

The first half was flat out horrible for both the offense and D. Looked like the only played that should be in the Heisman talk with Gurley is Melvin Gordon. Kid is a stud. Period. Every D in the SEC would have a hard time with him. He's a 1st round NFL back. Period. Speed, burst, balance, vision, patience, can break tackles and make people miss, etc. He is a stud.

We were beat in every phase of the game in the 1st half, and some of the 3rd. Then all of a sudden, the light switch went on. And we started taking it to Wisky and wore them down.

The fake punt was the game changing call IMO. And then Jennings found some confidence and a connection with Dural and started exploiting it. Im not surprised that Dural had that big of a night... hes very talented with great speed and is a natural WR out there. Hes a stud. And Diarse had the play of the game... That was a great TD run. Trey Quinn was impressive as a freshman. The moment didnt look too big for him and he was very comfortable out there, which is scary to think about. Gonna do big things for us. And when we get Dupre back, this good WR group just gets even better.

LF looked like a man when he had his hands in the ball... But wasn't the main RB like we all thought. But the talent and strength is obvious. The biggest thing he needs to work on is his vision, but the raw talent is most def there. Another freshman that impressed me was Godchaux. I loved him in the recruiting process and thought he had the potential to be a great DL one day... But was worried about him vs Wisky. And he held his own. He made some mistakes and missed some tackles, but he flashed on the screen and was extremely disruptive and explosive. Hes built like an NFL DL and is all muscle and very athletic. Hes going to be a great DL for us. And it was obvious we missed Bain. Bain and Godchaux could be our best DTs.

Kwon is our best player on D. Period. Dont think its that close either. Always on the ball. Hunter has a lot of bark with little bite. Has trouble recognizing certain plays and fakes, but when he sees it correctly nobody can stop him from making the play. Rasco played very well. Welter is still Welter... just blah. Beckwith needs more PT.

Our DBs are nasty. We had a makeshift DBfield last night and thought all were solid. Got beat some, but came back and made plays. Dwayne Thomas #13 needs to be on the field more. Period. Dude just has a knack for making plays. Mills INT was a thing of beauty. And loved seeing Ronald Martin have a good game, had a tough year last year switching to FS and with the loss of his father early in the season and then being injured and hes received a lot of hate on here, but I have always had faith in Martin. Hes an amazing athlete and is back at the SS spot which is his natural position. Hes a good player.

Finally, the QB spot. I don't mind giving Harris a series here and there... But show me something more than the option and draw. I wanna see him sling it because he's got the arm to make every pass in the book. 1st half, Jennings was playing not to lose the game and was very reserved. 2nd half, Jennings opened up way more and took control. He played to win in the 2nd half. Loved the 2nd half Jennings. And looked really good when we had some PA rollouts for him. If we can get 2nd half Jennings for the season, it will be a great year. If we get 1st half Jennings, might as well let Harris play. But loved 2nd half Jennings and hopefully he found some confidence after coming back and plays like that the rest of the season.

And I loved how we rallied as a team. The older players get along with the youngsters and help them a lot, and the youngsters look up and learn from the vets and have no problem taking a back seat and learning from them. They are a close knit group and it's gonna be great to watch them grow. This was a great test for a young team and you gotta love the resolve this team had to come back from 17 down. Thats a game we can build from both mentally and physically.

Looked like shite half the game and our youth was obvious. But our talent was obvious in the later part of the game. Play calling made me wanna puke at some moments, and made me smile at other moments. I hope we realize what we have and continue to build on that because once this team figures it out, they can be a special group.

Melvin Gordon... You are a stud and if healthy, should have gotten more than 2-3 carries the entire 2nd half. Thats a headscratcher. He's better than advertised and was the best player on the field. Gonna do big things in the NFL.

Finally... I'm usually always for a disciplined, fundamental style of play... But with this team, I say just cut them loose. Young, talented and very fast. Its gonna be a fun and very exciting season and Im looking forward to the ride

Play calling at times is difficult to watch. I know they were letting Jennings get his feet wet but once we started throwing it some the running game opened up as it always does coaches please take note!!!!

Didnt think he would... but how many snaps did he play out there? I saw him out there for a few snaps.

Duke can run and hit with the best of them though.

TL;DR embarrassing performance through 3 quarters. They had no clue on what to do. I will say though

I agree with everything here, especially about Hunter. He looks the part, but seems to be two steps late on every play.

I think alot of this had to do with how bad the Oline was. Jennings was under pressure from the get go, and who knows what Harris can do? As soon as the poor kid got the ball he was swallowed up. the Oline was a HUGE disappointment. Outside of the screens, Jennings was generally on target. He also made some nice passes on the run. With better Oline play I think he'll be fine.

My hope is that they start to trust the QB and WRs more and let them be playmakers as opposed to doing everything possible to make sure they don't make a mistake. Dural, Diarse and Quinn all looked fine. Give them chances to make plays

It's hard to see the field when your O-line is blowing assignments.

Agree with this assessment. I think we Hilliard will be our guy this year. Hilliard was Mr. Dependable last night.

Very well written. I also noticed how the team stuck together coming out of the half.. I don't know what happened in that locker room, but SOMEBODY lit a FIRE in that thing! And It showed throughout the rest of the game. I love how the older guys took the younger guys in this offseason and helped them grow into ready to start players.. it just shows the class we have in this program. Les, thank you. Cam, I questioned a few play calls early but the important thing is that you got it right. Chief, you just Did the Damn thing. Gordon is probably the best back in the country aside from Gurley, and your game plan worked wonders with the group of guys we had out there..

To say these guys are too young, not ready, inexperienced or whatever it may be.. they all showed us something last night. Heart of Tigers for sure. Going to be fun watching these kids grow in the program in the coming years.. Man it's good to be an LSU fan.

LSU d stepped up and stopped the long runs on first down and kept Wisky in 2nd & 3rd and long situations forcing them to pass...

They only had one drive after their opening drive in the 3rd for a score that went beyond 4 plays and that was a 8 play drive which was the only drive after their opening score that they got positive yardage on 1st and 2nd down which lead to a short 3 down try they converted...this drive ended with an INT on a 3rd and 10 play...

MG carried the ball 3 more times after that initial 3rd quarter drive and only had 1 yard net rushing...

Gordons last 2 carries went for no gain. That is a bit of a stretch.

Chavis did a great job of convincing Anderson to not play his best player in the 2nd half. I guess Gordon was spent after nearly 80 yards in the first half and a 63 yard run to start the second.

Supposedly Gordon tweaked his hammy after that 60yard run to start the 2nd half... but he said he was fine after the game. If he was fine and didnt tweak his hammy... well that coach is just dumb then.

And if he did tweak his hammy, they still abandoned the run to early. That coach saw signs of life from LSU and freaked out and tried to get a TD to put us away, instead of sticking with what got them there. And it came back to bite them in the arse.

Think this team makes serious strides over the next few games. Will have major confidence in themselves after this one. Will only build against weaker opponents. No idea how high the ceiling is, but I don't think we see another half like the first one. Only 1 bad series for the O and D after the half. Dominated after that

I disagree about the team "flipping a switch". There was one discernable turning point in the game and it wasn't the fake punt, it was when Wisconsin's nose tackle went down with a knee injury. Once he was out of the game, the pressure on Jennings was severely reduced, giving him more time to make throws, and the o-line was actually capable of making space for our running backs.

This increadible turning point enabled our offense to be much more productive, but it was a strategic blunder on Wisconsin's part that created the opportunities for our ball hawking secondary. Despite blowing our d-line off the ball all game, even with 9-10 in the box, wisconsin decided to pass...repeatedly. These pass plays resulted in 3 and outs and turnovers as the strength of our defense (the secondary) was able to take advantage of Wisconsin's weakness at qb and reciever.

This game was very concerning for tiger fans, but it showed one very important quality of this team, grit. Their talent may be over-matched at times (see our o and d-line matchups with Wisconsin), that they will rally, never give up, and play hard as a team until the final whistle.

I agree that losing their NT had a big effect on the game... But IMO the fake punt was the spark that our team needed. After that play, we had a different attitude and started bringing it to Wisky. It got the wheels turning.

The nt going down didn't help, certainly, but LSU certainly wore down the badger dline and that played a part in the turn around too. It is foolish to say the nt going down was the only reason things turned out like they did.

Yes, physically he looked like a man amongst boys, but he did not play like it.

I know he had no help from the o-line, but all the hype led me to believe he would have AT LEAST 1 play were he broke a tackle and turned a 1-2 yard loss into a 15-20 yard gain. Would like to have seen it just once.

All you who are talking about how great he looked and blaming it all on the o-line are in denial. He will likely turn out to be great, but his debut was very far from impressive.
