Starting to get too old. Doesnt want to leave his wife with a bunch of memorabilia. May feel his time is coming soon. Dump the good stuff now for a bunch of money...

His trophy room burned down a few years back, may not have room or need for it.

Yeah all of his cws stuff... But other things that are still worth money. Why leave them to his wife. Because after he passes she would look bad for selling his stuff. So sell the stuff now and leave her money.

Was he selling it himself, or was someone he gave it to selling it?

Something that was given to him. He is selling for money.
.
Would think he would donate it back to the school. Hell he did not pay for it in the first place.

Why the school already has one crystal ball from that championship. Why would you need 2? No thats skips crystal ball to do with whatever he pleases. Maybe he wanted it to go to someone who could appreciate it as much as he did. Hints why i think he believes his time is coming

Could be the fact that he is at the casino every time I go.

Maybe he's a good gambler... Or maybe he has an addiction... Next time you see him hand him the number to the gamble addiction hotline just to be sure
