this wasn't something that happened overnight. auburn has been mute for quite awhile on their DC and it is plausible, even likely, that they had a deal for weeks.

Mr. Steele did not pull a Chavis and stab us in the back. I applaud him for doing a good job and earning his pay. last nights D performance was a thing of beauty. our guys kicked some arse. that poor TT QB will be having nightmares about yellow and white monsters trying to rip his head off for quite awhile. not to mention their rushing attack being completely shut down.

I think LSU is going to come out smelling like a rose. I look for coach O to be our new DC.

I don't get the glee over Steele leaving.
I thought the defense did well this year overall, and it was too early to get a good read on how good a job Steele was doing.

Literally the first time in lsu history we have given up 20+ points in 10 games in a single season (9 in a row lol)

don't include me in that group. there is a group that hated the steele hire from day 1 and these people are very close minded and didn't want to give him a chance. they wanted a "sexy" hire.

I liked the defensive situation we had and would have liked it to continue but change is inevitable in the assistant ranks. chavis staying 6 years was way over average.

Even though I'm not sure about that. I do look for him to get a raise which is why he would say he was staying. Again, hopefully we're just looking at something transitional.

true, but there is some context to this, several garbage time td's, several blown plays during otherwise well played games, special teams frickups...

Best wishes to him, I think he did an excellent job. I also think the reasons given, Alabama state pension and healthcare are petty for a man of ambition. Do a good job and you can buy a hospital.

I agree. This is how a coach and a university handle a separation. Good luck to him (particularly in the Iron Bowl).

Steele's defense did okay to say the least. The month of November exposed their lack of depth and experience. LSU ranked #27 nationally. Allowing over 347 ypg.

LINK

This years defense did improve in getting after the quarterback, where they sacked the QB 34 times versus last years lackluster effort in sacking the QB only 19 times.

Why? What qualifies him to be a Defensive Coordinator?

I don't get the love for Orgeron on this board. He is a great recruiter and a good D Line coach.

Can't really blame this years defense on Steele. We were left dry by Chavis.

I agree.

The change was announced today, but the agreement was made much earlier. Steele stayed with the Tigers for the bowl game and the team played well. As far as I can tell, Steele nor the team mailed it in whatsoever. In my opinion, Kevin left the right way and that is about all we can ask for.

Not really. I think the 20 point stat belongs in the conversation if we are going to take an honest view of the situation.

We held State and A&M under 20pts. That's it. This defense had gaping holes and our DBs were asked to play entirely too much zone.

I kinda hope they bump Os pay up keep him where he is and find a new DC but if O is named would still be an upgrade IMO.
