I'm confident that LSU has the edge tomorrow with State but the arguments that there is nothing to worry about because we have the statistical edge over the last 20 or so years doesn't bear out. There are a lot of factors that play into why certain MS State teams play LSU better than others. I think it's interesting to see how our coaches have fared against each other. If you look at the chart below, LSU had our largest average margin of victory over MSU under Saban. MSU had their largest average margin of defeat during the Croom era. Interestingly enough, the last three years have seen our average point differential with MSU at 0.

So, yes, we should take State seriously.

I can guarantee you no one from lsu is walking into that stadium and expecting a cake walk. They're going to work.

Mullen has been tightening the gap the past three years, but after the 2013 season, everyone had been tightening the gap on LSU because Les Miles was still HC.

Totally agree. My hope is that the tigers play 60 minutes...the close games of late, even the loss in '14, was mainly due to sloppy inconsistent play

It's always interesting to see stats and data like this and I appreciate the work.

This is what I can say though. LSU MAYBE could have blown the doors off state last year had we not gone to sleep in the 2nd half. Kudos to them for fighting and staying in the game to the point of almost winning at the end.

However, we have new coaches and new philosophies. This game is a litmus test so to speak for this staff.

That's the numbers I'll look at going forward. As a former miles supporter, he started making every game way more interesting than they should have been.

ETA: hit submit too soon. Just wanted to sum it up with hopefully this staff can get leads and bury opponents. They sort of did that last year. Hope they build on it.

Face the facts. Miles was a terrible coach and Dan Mullen is a decent coach.

One of those is no longer with their program.

I like our chances.

And LSU will widen that gap tomorrow night. Nah but if LSU comes to play a physical, smart, penalty free game then we should win by a good margin. Yes they have talent but when you get into their second strings who will have to come in at some point there is a little drop off and that's where LSU can take control.

That and I truly believe that States Defense has no idea what we will hit them with on offense. Aranda will limit their points, he's done it with everyone. LSU is a physical team so we match up well with Miss state, when you add Canada calling plays, that's what will separate this game. He will have to call a good game and not this vanilla style game we've seen so for.

State only did good because of Dak Prescott, now of the Dallas Cowboys. I live over here now and I listen to Sports Talk Radio a lot while driving. State has no Dak, no wide receivers, no breakaway speed, no defensive backs. I look for an easy LSU win.

Kinda aligns with the demise of Miles. What does it look like if you do that for the rest of the teams we play every year?
