It was the first game of the year. We won.

It wasn't pretty but it could have been much worse. I don't see how you can jump to all these conclusions based on one game.
End of an era? If we go 8-5 this year & next, then I will believe that the magic has faded...

Neither is mine...I'll be in the stands if they're 1-10 playing Arkansas this year. The bar has been raised for LSU football, the top 20 isn't where that bar should be set, and there's no need to lower that bar for the forseeable future.

Now this is something I agree with you about!

I call BS on Miles saving the program by running Perriloux!

Fact is RP was a problem because of Miles complete lack of discipline! The situation finally got out of hand to the point he had to run him.

That is utter nonsense!! I need to dso some googling but Carl Dubois wrote an excellent article how Miles was constantly on Perriloux and on his neck.

2008 - miserable year

Sorry, but I didn't read past that comment.

When 8-5 and a Peach Bowl rout over a fairly high ranked team is judged to equate to "miserable year", I have to think someone has become a tad spoiled. Down year...yes. Subpar year...yes. "miserable year"...not even close. You must not have been around for Curly or the 6 losing years in a row. That, my friend, was a truly "miserable" experience.

Not saying you can't feel how you feel, but just that I have seen "miserable" and this isn't it.

Exactly!! For Miles supposed lack of discipline it does not seem that we have not had a NCAA investigation yet.

If people want to see a lack of discipline we can can see a few other SEC teams. I have been impressed that Miles while giving second chances does bring the hammer down

Didn't we establish that Miles made a good call by burning RP, given that he's been suspended at Jacksonville State too?

So it was Miles fault and not the 18 years prior to that of being raised to think and act the way he did? Even if his parents were good, sometimes some people just turn out bad...

medtiger, you might be right Saban may have passed altogether on RP in which case we'd have McCoy or Sneed at QB right now....

One things for sure if RP showed up he would have damn sure known who's boss.

As for the RP Jax State comment...Jax State has no recourse but to except wayward degenerates from real Div 1 programs. I'm shocked he got suspended, I figured he had the green light to rape and pillage. Must have screwed the AD's wife or something.

I don't think it's the mourning of an era at all.

I think it's the same old Louisiana "the sky is falling again" mentality. Here comes the big bad negamonster to get you.

Then we are the same page except that I realize that college football goes through cycles.

80s: option is the only offense in town. Nebraska is elete along with Miami
Now: Dreaded "triple option" gets faced in the Chick Fil et Bowl. Nebrakska and Miami are happy to even be ranked.

90s: Fun and gun is now the "it" offense. Spurrier is making the rest of the SEC his bitches. USC sucks balls in the late 90s.
Now: Fun in gun is gone. Spurrier is struggling to keep South Carolina ranked each year. USC is "elite".

2000s: SEC is taking over. New version of the old single wing is taking hold but it has a fancy new name (spread offense). The Option is Back! USC is dominate again.

2010s: Who knows? But I will tell you this: It's inevitable that the SEC will lose it's position as the #1 conference in the nation. USC will eventually start to suck again. The spread offense won't be as dominate in 2019. And guess what? LSU will be happy to be ranked in the top 25.

You know what's funny? I have a dog just like this. Scared of it's own shadow, and when the lightning cracks during a thunderstorm you can look at her and she has this look of "I KNEW IT was coming... My doom has finally arrived."

with your post, it was like you were running a good 90 yards for a touchdown and had 10 yards to go, but somehow - with above part of your post - you managed to trip on your own shoe laces at the two yard line and fumble the ball.

even i will reserve judgement until this season is over but i have never been that comfortable with miles so we will see...if we do lose to bama, ole miss, georgia and florida then we need to at least consider other options at head coach...

I know my limitations. Unlike the original poster I can't see into the future and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Nebraska and Miami are happy to be ranked right now because they made terrible coaching hires. Now they're rebuilding. LSU can avoid their situations by making the correct hires. Sometimes you miss, so it's possible that LSU could be in their position in the future, but it isn't a definite.

Maybe, but I think there's a better chance that the SEC continues its dominance. Just like the ACC in basketball.

quote:

USC will eventually start to suck again.

They shouldn't, unless they make a bad hire who is unable to either coach the assload of talent they pull in each year or who is unable to continue to recruit that talent. Either way, once Pete Carroll is gone, USC will continue to be good if they make the right coaching hire.

quote:

LSU will be happy to be ranked in the top 25.

This day will likely come again, I agree. But it isn't inevitable, and if it happens, it shouldn't just be blown off as "oh well, college football goes through cycles." LSU has its pick of the litter in one of the 4 or 5 most talent laden states in the country for recruiting. We have absolutely zero in state competition, not even from a team who is good from time to time. LSU also has top notch facilities which cost alot of money which weren't around even 10 years ago. The football program being in the top 10 on a consistent basis directly correlates to the strength of the University as a whole. The powers that be won't just be happy to have a mediocre program any longer. They'll make changes as they see fit to give LSU the best chance to compete for SEC and National Championships for years to come.

Thank you for proving that my absence from the rant was not a major mistake. Jeezuzpleezuz this is the kindof melodrama that stigmatizes LSU fans almost to the tune of Bama's LSD laced kool-aid.

Katy, I'll stop traffic on the new bridge if u promise to jump. You make me wanna puke.
