Alan Dunn
No doubt, this guy is the Dave Aranda of baseball. This staff has continually displayed steps of improvement all year long. Dunn is in their head and makes our pitchers better. He knows what he's doing.
For this reason I trust him in what he's going to do tomorrow in game 1.

Hes not thought of as the best pitching coach in college, maybe in all of baseball, for nothing.

Duplantis. No one seems to ever mention him but he might be our best player

I sure hope he is retained next year.

It was a great replacement move by Paul after he made such a shitty one in hiring Grewe after Rooney left.
I'm honestly legit shocked that we've kept Dunn these last two years with the Bama job being open both times.

I was expecting a thread about Tommy Mainieri. Bringing back that Miami vice look.

Between this post and your sig pic, I think you may be sexually attracted to Paul's sons.

Paul Mainieri. The guy many compared, and often times called "Les Miles" and/or pasta sauce. While folks were complaining about underachieving he was evaluating his squad and ultimately made several moves that got the team in a position to make a run:
Watson to CF
Hess to pen
Coomes to 1st
Gilbert from set up man to long relief/4th starter
Slaughter back to 1st ....
I'm sure there's others I'm overlooking

I think CPM is the most underrated. Never gets credit for his success but is constantly criticized when something doesn't go our way. Regardless of what happens in the CWS finals he is a great and fantastic baseball coach and we at LSU are very fortunate to have him.

I think he asks his guys to be too perfect at times and has Pap lined up too far off. We waste a lot of pitches in counts and our guys throw a lot of pitches because of it. His philosophy is to pitch for strikeouts and that requires those wave pitches and changing planes. I get it and I would call similar sequences, but he does not adapt that philosophy in bad situations and with less consistent pitchers. That is a flaw I see in him.
Also, I would like to see more responsibility given to pitchers and catchers in calling sequences and pickoffs. I appreciate Dunn's knowledge, but I don't think veteran college pitchers need to be controlled by a pitching coach so much. I believe it should be a more collaborative effort.
His results and success of his pitchers speak for themself. Those are just some criticisms that I think would benefit him as a coach and our players.

Paps is a beast behind the plate and standing at the plate . He's really turned it up in the CWS, without him we wouldn't be here imo. Also love duplantis , he's such a tough out . Geaux tigers

quote:i wouldn't say he's "most unheralded", atleast not as of late. His bat has been hot and his name has been flying around. Now, if we're just talking about his play behind the plate, I'd agree with you 100%. I thought he was only a mediocre catcher last year. I remember several occasions where people wanted him pulled and replaced with Romero. (Only to have Romero come in and name just as many mistakes, if not more,) The guy has really stepped up thus season and become a very good catcher.

Yeah. Lets take one of the most brilliant pitching gurus in the game and use the insight of 18-22 year olds instead of him. Sorry but 1 million times out of 1 million times I would go with dunns intuition over the players. Even the most advanced catchers in the college game rarely call their own game. Some have a higher input level. But why do you think no one shakes Alan dunn off? It's not because they're scared of him, it's because he is usually spot on with what they need to throw. Let the coaches you know, coach.
