Brady left johnson with no underclassmen... This a complete rebuilding year

Another asinine comment posted on this board. Trent Johnson inherited a cupboard that most new coaches would love to inherit. He was left an SEC championship team that was HEALTHY. He inherited an incoming top 25 player in J'mison Morgan who promptly requested his release. He inherited 2009 commitments from top 50 player PG Tommy Mason Griffin and dual sport star Brandon Mitchell, both of whom decommitted.

Trent Johnson has done an excellent job as LSU coach in many ways. At this point in time his recruiting is suspect despite the stellar group signed for the coming year. These recruits are talented and show promise for the future. None of them appear to be a premier type player and history has shown LSU's most successful seasons occurred when there was a super player leading the way. Right now his recruiting looks like Vanderbilt south.

Brady has been gone almost two years, this is Trent Johnson's program not John Brady's. Now if you want to see an empty cupboard take a look at what was left to John Brady in 1997.

It must be stated tht at this same point in his tenure Brady had signed Stromile Swift, Jabari Smith, Jermaine Williams, Collis Temple III, Brad Bridgewater, Lamont Roland, Brian Beshara, Marquis Ledoux and Willie Anderson. Trent Johnson had signed Chris Bass, Eddie Ludwig and Aaron Dotson.

Time to end the snide and snarky Brady rhetoric. Get behind Trent Johnson and hope that he can at least match Brady's ten years then compare if you must

They lost to Ga Tech, a very good team that made it to the Final Four, in the second round. This idea about the LSU team that year is one of the biggest myths in history. Jackson, Shaq, and Roberts only played together one year. Jackson was only a sophomore, and Shaq and Roberts were freshmen. Shaq was a skinny, raw kid when he arrived at LSU. Ga Tech had Dennis Scott and Kenny Anderson, two future NBA players. They were every bit as talented as we were. It was a great game. I was there.

Have to have the obligatory annual non conference holiday blowout game.(something Dale Brown started years ago against ranked and unranked teamsUNLV in 1987, Illinois in 1988, and then lesser ranked foes like Okie and Coppin St in 94, kansas, duke, unc, fresno state, washington, amongst other conference early season losses)

if we did not then lsu would continue to get by 5-10 wins against in state teams and then lsu crowds would shrink to uno-ish type crowds with that type of foolish thoughts.
john brady i hope you get fired by mid season.

signed trent johnson

One of the least talented teams in many years. Trent has a tough job ahead of him.

Just about anybody who knows anything about basketball knew that this would be a down year for LSU Bball. I am not impressed with this pass years class but if they can improve as much as Storm seems to have done then maybe if his next class has some game changers we can again compete for post season wins!

That was a GREAT game.

Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers, God rest his soul, put on a great performance along with our Tigers, Shaq and Jackson.

Good post. I wasn't a big Brady fan but I knew when Butch Pierre left LSU, we were in for some lean recruiting years. TJ coming from the NE doesn't help either. He has to establish himself and that will take some time. But no doubt about it, like Brady or not, him and Butch recruited some talent and we were at least competitive. This team is so easy to defend and we just don't have any scoring threat outside Bo and Taz. This year is going to be a rough ride.

The basketball team played tonight? Women or men?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought he's a west coast guy.

agreed, and anyone with their panties in a wad only knows LSU basketball by what their record reflects.

We have a good one in Trent. The future looks very bright. I'll still be rooting for my tigers in section 215 every game no matter how bad we might be.

Butch Pierre was going to get us into some trouble. From top to bottom, on paper at this juncture, the 2010 class is the best class we've had in ten years. Throw in Malcolm White and it's a very very good group and will be better long-term than anything we had from Brady.

Butch Pierre didn't recruit our Final Four team, big Collis did. Tiger20 is a freaking Brady sodomizer so what does he know? He knows how to take down the whole kielbasa in one bite, nothing more.

Nobody had any clue that Tyrus would become as dominant as he did in college, neither did Brady. he was basically forced into signing him by the fact that he had nobody else. It worked out well.

Simple fact of the matter is that I've worked in the department during Brady's tenure and he was a dick. Straight up. Trent, in my few occasions, has sold me.

This was nothing compared to the Purdue loss in the NCAA tournament. We had a bad day, lost on the road over 1000 miles away. We knew this would be a tough year. We knew it. And we need to stay with this team and realize that our best days for LSU basketball are ahead.

Geaux Tigers. Geaux Trent Johnson.

I agree with you. Losing BP was a huge hit. Butch's greatest advantage was his long history in LA(not just with LSU) He knew the hot spots, coaches, and they knew him. Also BP had the luxury of a very fertile recruiting ground, now Brent Scott and TJ do. I had the privilege of talking to Coach Brent Scott at a recruits game a couple nights ago. He's night and day different then BP. Could be good, could be bad. BP usually showed up to the gym in slacks(not always) ....Scott showed up in LSU sweatpants and LSU sweatshirt with a hoodie. Just looked old school. Had a great personality, joking around a lot. Don't underestimate Keith Richard's value either. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how long it takes for the staff to lock up the state schools.

I'll attest to this and really didn't want to put it in my last post because I really don't have a links or evidence to support. From the knowledge I have was BP had become very lazy. Like I stated previously:
1) he knew everyone and was known by everyone
2) had a very fertile territory
3) he recruited for the state's only flagship university

And to harp more on Authority's point....

He recruited his God Son(that was a guarantee as he was a Tiger fan his whole life) and Temple recruited the everyone else.

I don't care where we recruit the player from if they turn out to be good players. Hopefully the current staff will sign the best from this state and fill in with out of staters.

But, you can bet if Brady was here all we would hear about is how they missed out on Brian Williams or Langston Galloway regardless of who they may have signed from elsewhere.

I'd like to atleast have a shot at the Chris Duhon's and DJ Augustin's.

I'm with you, I have no problem with out of staters.

But no reason to fly across the country to get Alex Farrer.(God Bless his soul)

Chris Duhon was recruited during the probation era which hurt the chances of signing him. Mama Duhon ended up with a good job in Durham and moved there from Slidell. Did the NCAA investigate Coach K?

Some say Augustin would have signed with LSU if his family had not been displaced by Katrina, some say he would have left like all othe N.O. prospects. Who knows?

As for Farrar i am certain Brady and Butch saw him play well a nd thought he could help. Even the best programs ahve players who don't develop into big time players. He is a player who stayed five years and is certainly no worse thatn some of the players Brady allegedly " ran off". He did contribute to two SEC title teams and has been an asset to the program. Maybe with more pT this year he could have developed into a more productive player averaging 6 to 8 PPG or so and helping the offense flow.
