re: Miles haters will only be satisfied if his LSU tenure ends

There may be several coaches who could have duplicated Miles' success, but many more would have failed where he succeeded at OSU. That school was a HOLE when he got there. By the end of year 1 they knocked OU out of the title game and in years 2 and 3 he got them on solid ground. No matter what their fans say, OSU's success was setup during Miles' tenure. He set the table for them. We are talking about a progam that didn't go to a bowl for over 10 years and was just passable with 2 NFL HOF rbs. How many coaches have been able to revive programs like that? Everyone loves to beat Miles up and act like he has accomplished nothing in his career, but that simply isn't the case. He isn't the best coach in the world, but if he surrounds himself with the right people, he will succeed. That is why the DC decision is such a big one, because if he doesn't, then he will be vunerable. All I am saying is don't be an idiot an realize that the truth about the man is somewhere between the Cool Aid drinkers' and the Bandwagon Jumpers' opinions.

I like Les Miles but he should have hired a proven DC last year. to promote 2 coaches for one spot seems like a lazy way of doing your job.

And the reason Arkansas didn't, now resides in Oxford Mississippi, and is settled in for another run at mediocrity.
hypocracy at it's best:
SEC West Standings:
Alabama 8-0
Mississippi 5-3
LSU 3-5
Arkansas 2-6
Auburn
Mississippi State
...wait, wait...let me guess. Coach O left Ole Miss with a full pantry while Nutt left ya'lls bare.

That happens with every coach. I seem to remember Petrino losing to teams that he had more talent than when he was at UL. It happens.
Consistantly? As much as it happens to Miles? By the same lesser talented teams?
Like I said, I hope Les stays at LSU for a decade. Defense was an issue for LSU last Friday, no doubt. But his problems run deeper than that.
Here's what everyone is overlooking. LSU's current DC did not playcall the last three, 3-and-out LSU offensive series in the forth quarter Friday. Right?
How many 4th quarter first downs did LSU get? IMO, Mile's playcalling kept the Tiger D on the field way too much. Keep the defense out there long enough, and bad things will happen.

we shouldn't have lost to Kentucky or Arky last season either. not only should we not have lost but they neither of those two teams should have been able to stay on the field against us.
Seriously, where do ideas like this come from. The idea that LSU, or any team for that matter, is such a juggernaut, and that other teams should simply bow in our presence is just ridiculous. Plain and simple.

oh,by the way we shouldn't have lost to Tennessee in 2005 or Auburn in 2006.
we REALLY should not have the game to UThug in '05...but we shouldn't have lost to UAB under Saban either!

Some of you have already made up your mind that he will not make the necessary decisions and corrections for 2009 and will not give him a shot at redemption
I really don't think he does make the decision...just like with Perrilloux, I think he will be forced to "let them go". I also think by the time the decision is made (if it IS made), it will be too late to bring a quality DC in.

And if you don't think that is a valid argument, you know even less about college football than I initially thought you did.
I'll be impressed when Nutt does it with his own players. Do you actually believe that has nothing to do with how well Ole Miss did this season, and how bad Arkansas did this season?
Really?

No team should be bowed down to anymore. There was a time that was true with some programs, but not today.

Not sure where an Arky gets any right to talk shite.
2007
Arkansas defeats LSU; LSU wins national championship; Arkansas folds in the Cotton Bowl
2008
Arkansas defeats LSU; LSU goes to a Dec 31 or Jan 1 bowl; Arkansas stays home

Agreed. I, unlike a lot of LSU fans, agree that the offensive staff did VERY little all year to help out a young QB who was desparate for some kind of protection from calling plays that he simply wasn't very good at running. And the play calling was TERRIBLE the last 20 minutes of the game for us.

And here's where you lose me. How is it "Miles' playcalling"? Why does everyone just assume that anytime the offense succeeds, it is because Crowton is great, but anytime it doesn't, its because Miles is "meddling"?
Posted on 12/2/08 at 3:26 pm to NorCalHog
EVERY SINGLE TIME A NEW COACH COMES IN TO REPLACE A FIRED COACH IT'S ALWAYS THE SAME EXCUSE.
The 1st guy was a great recruiter, the second guy is a better coach. It works like that for Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss (when talking to an Arky fan).
When we're looking at Miles the argument breaks down as it does for Petrino (when talking to an Arky fan).

I do not mean to talk smack. Sorry if you're offended. Like I said - I fully support Les Miles and his tenure at LSU.
By the way, if you're happy losing to Arkansas, then going on to better things the following week, I'm certainly good with that.

Then why the hell do you keep bashing Miles for losing games to teams that have talent too? The bottom line is, in the SEC, any team can beat you any day of the week. I don't think LSU has lost a game under Miles that I think we ABSOLUTELY should have won based on talent alone. I really don't.

Agreed. A fan can't have it both ways. But at the end of the day, who does Crowton work for?
I don't know about you, but I am held responsible for the performance of people I manage. Football coaching is no different in that respect. Why do you think Tuberville threw his OC under the bus? IMO, he was told his arse was gone if he didn't.

we are #1 in total defense and win the National Title, they'll still moan and complain
Yeah, so many people were complaining about the National Championship.
Dude, if you can't handle people criticizing Miles after his defense is gashed game after game by bad football teams, then quit reading.

Dude. Arkansas started 16 true freshmen, and until Friday, had only won one SEC game.
If you want to believe Miles shouldn't have won that game, well, hang your hat on that. I'm certainly not going to try to change your mind.
Which brings us full circle. Smarter SEC coaches will continue to embarrass LSU regardless of talent, as long as Les Mile's is coach there.

But I think there's a little bit of wiggle room between finishing #1 in total defense and the product put on the field this year.
The moaning and crying on this board is completely justified.
I'm sure there is less crying on Vandy's board.
I think the vandy board is mostly just a group of people with a pool running for when the next largest prime number will be discovered

If that's how you think, then that's fine. But I doubt you were on this board last year giving Miles credit for his innovative offensive gameplan in the national championship game.
