Miles has lost a lot of the fanbase, what would win them back next year?

For the first time in his career, a very substantial percentage of the LSU fanbase (if it's not a majority, it's at least a substantial minority and definitely a higher percentage than it has ever been) want Miles gone. Obviously, there's nothing he can do in these last two games to change that, which means next year will be his first opportunity to turn it around. What do you think it will take?

I would say, at a minimum, seriously contending* for the SEC West title for only the 2nd time in 8 years would really help, and may even be necessary. Do you agree?

(*-for purposes of this post, "seriously contending" means going into the last two games of SEC play with a solid, realistic chance of winning the division)

And what do you base this on? Hopefully not the Rant.....

Only what I encounter in real life and on the rant. Believe me, his popularity on the rant is WAY higher than among the RL people I know.

OK - I've seen it opposite, most folks I know are willing to give him another year - that said, (and to answer your question), I'd say two or fewer losses, or he's going to lose enough of them to really be in trouble. 3-4 losses, there will be a huge clamor, but I'd imagine he still keeps his job. 5 or more, we're looking for a new coach....

Fair enough. Also, note that (due to the good point you make) I edited the OP to say "at least a substantial minority and definitely a higher percentage than it has ever been" instead of either a majority or "close". Oddly, there are some who want to give him another year, and then get rid of him. The attitude seems to be that he deserves the extra year because of past success, but there's no real hope for the future with him.

I think you're pretty accurate there.

WE don't know anybody personally or have talked with anybody on campus before, during or after games or around town that support Les Miles. It's 100%. Everybody wants him gone. His only support is from a few nutty message board Sunshine Pumpers and "Program Worshipper" types. His ship has sailed until he makes the necessary and needed Offensive/QB corrections to turn things around. If his ego and stubbornness rule and he does nothing, he'll be gone after next season. Don't think for a New York Minute that there aren't enough Power Brokers and Big Money People out there to manage the buyout.

Do you disagree? When has Miles' popularity among the fan base been lower than it is right now?

There's some major factors that need to happen before Miles' seat gets warm:
1. Fall off in recruiting
2. Major defections of draft eligibles, or players transferring
3. Not winning easy games
4. Players giving up.

Most of the negativity towards Miles and the program will go away before the season if they can:
1. Finish with a strong recruiting class
2. Retain 75% of draft eligible underclass
3. Show an effective passing attack in the bowl game or spring practice/game

Miles gets GOAT status when:
1. LSU goes undefeated
2. LSU wins national championship

Miles would gain my confidence again if he can have a season in which LSU contends for the SEC West title, while putting a decent QB on the field who has been exclusively coached since high school by his own staff.

Rent-a-NJCAA-champion-QBs don't count, QBs developed under an existing Saban-instituted Jimbo Fisher offensive staff don't count.

He has yet to do it once in his entire tenure here, yet other coaches do it every year in the SEC West. There's no excuse.

Uhhh if anything the Rant is where Miles's defenders are most prevalent. IRL most LSU fans think it's time for a change. We don't have anything against the guy but it's clear that the game is passing him by and everyone I've spoken to agrees that he should leave soon while he can still retain the respect and admiration he's earned over the past decade.

I think we have a shot at third place in the SEC West next year behind Alabama and Auburn. We may end up fourth behind A&M.

8-4, Les will not be in danger, grumbling continues among fan base.

I simply want to see Harris to get the lions share of fall camp reps.

Question for you: auburn loses Marshall, their RB, and at least 1 if not 2 of their WRs. Do you really think they will be top 2 in the conference next year? This was their year and they blew it in epic fashion.

My hope is that Harris has been a Boy Scout (ie didn't do anything stupid that would explain why he hasn't played) and starts the A&M game and does well.

With the exception of fans at other schools who want him to stay.

I am beginning to believe the sunshine pumpers are really fans of other schools trolling us.

17 million!!! That is what's estimated that LSU would owe Miles if they fired him.
This is a business, and firing him right now or even next year is a BAD business decision.
