Oh and how has Miami done since firing Coker? Randy Shannon is 21-17, compared to Coker's 60-15. Shannon's lost more games in his three seasons than Coker lost in 6 but Miami was heading in the wrong direction under Coker?

But half the team isn't in jail. Look outside of the record and the numbers, numbers aren't everything, perception is important.

Neither do I, but I would not classify Les as a Top 10 coach.

I think Les is an above-average coach when you consider all aspects of coaching at the college level. I think he's in the Top 25 of college coaches.

That's a reasonable view.

I look at results when I try try to evaluate anything in the sports world cause I think results are non-conjecture/non-bias based meaurments.

Looking at results over the past 5 seasons of LSU football, I would have to say Miles ranks higher than a simple "in the Top 25 of college coaches". A NC, won 3 seasons into a tour of duty, separates a HC from 99% of his coaching peers just by itself. Add on the career wins, the poll rankings, SEC wins, SECWC and the like and I have to place the man in or close to the top 10 to this point of time.

No doubt LSU has dropped from the 05-07 time period, but my jury has yet to come in on Miles. The next 2 seasons, and yes he will be here 2 more seasons unless he walks on his own, will tell us all what we need to know and it will give a NC HC time to show if he still has the ability to lead LSU to west and SEC championships or not. imo

Last year I bashed his every move. I've always been a glass half-empty/strive to improve type..

However, I've seen some guys on here appeal this way, and I agree: I'd rather see us do better this year, have success against Bama, go to the SEC championship or even better...basically have success now with our not so stellar coach. INSTEAD of having a mediocre season or 2, where he must go and our program goes through the hurdles of a coaching change. Even if it means we end up better on the back side.

Top 5 (Elite):

1. Nick Saban
2. Urban Meyer
3. Mack Brown
4. Jim Tressel
5. Bob Stoops

Next 4 (almost elite):

6. Frank Beamer
7. Jo Pa
8. Mark Richt
9. Rich Rodriguez

Non-elite, but coaches I consider "better" than Miles:

10. Chip Kelly
11. Gary Patterson
12. Brian Kelly
13. Bo Pelini
14. Butch Davis

Coaches that are "debateably" better than Miles:

15. Chris Peterson
16. Tommy Tuberville
17. Mike Riley
18. Bobby Petrino

Joe PA is the almost elite one in this group. However I would take Miles over Richt.

Not well. Unfortunately for them, they failed to see the writing on the wall soon enough and waited until he had pretty much gutted the program before making a change. Then, they had a major rebuilding job to do, and they are still only part of the way through it. Had they acted sooner, they would have had less work to do. Had they kept Coker, they'd be at rock bottom and still waiting to start an even longer rebuilding process.

Tennessee made a similar mistake with their national championship-winning coach, and now they are in the midst of a rebuilding process, too.

LSU is next.

Richt has been consistently good at school that is in one of the most competitive recruiting grounds in the country. Consistency is a big plus for me.

people like to bash les. he's unconventional.

tv has little respect for him because he's not in a media market where there was success before. like with florida and urban, or nick with bama.

people didnt use to talk about nick either when lsu was here. espn loved him for 1 month before the nc game, and didn't love him again until he went to alabama. louisiana is not a money state with the media and what not.

now the fans, they're stupid. they're so worried about trying to get a better coach that they dont realize how good this one is. they'll learn one day. did the same thing with nick now look, people in here would love to get on their knees infront of prick saban.

Miles positives:
Good recruiter
Nice guy (helps with recruiting with high school coaches, family, etc..)

Negatives:
Doesn't make coaching changes quickly enough (fire crowton)
Gameday decisions are questionable. Ok suck sometimes.
Can't speak well publically. He has the "want" to but just can't.

If he has good coordinators, as we've seen with the turnaround on defense, I think we can be competative with him at the helm. If he pulls a Denardo/Teppor fiasco then he needs to go.

He's a CEO coach.

CEO coaches are normally as good as their coordinators. Plus, he's a hell of a recruiter and the players seem to like playing for him. He does struggle instill discipline in my opinion.

You give me Les Miles, a good OC, and a good DC, and I think we're set.

He needs to win a sec title game to put him near elite status. However I do agree with your post.

I would take Rodriguez in a second.

If Michigan gives him time, he's going to do well. Most people don't realize just how bare Michigan was when Carr left.
