Elite over his tenure here

Maybe.... The 2007 season was great but that team still had a lot of Sabans players on it. Then came 2008 and 2009. 2010 was decent...2011 was possibly the best regular seasons in history, BUT the big goose-egg in the title game is all that people will remember. 2012 was decent but could have been great if they beat Bama.2013 was decent as well. The loss to UGA...I can deal with. The Ole Miss game was horrible and that's ALL on Miles.... Again a decent year... So I am not sure where you put "ELITE" at... Just sayin......

So NEWER coaches BUILDING programs are penalized for winning more than our "best coach ever" at an established program?

Yes, because a flash in the pan benefits from not doing it over the long haul in the best division of the best conference. It's not rocket science.

All upperclassmen coached by Miles for the majority of their careers.

And that's sad. because as you alluded to there was so much more to that season than one game.

Did Miles coach Mett to have uncharacteristic 3 pick first half?

Yea, averaging 10 wins a year just isn't doing it over the long haul. He had two seasons of 20 wins and a bunch of losing seasons.

Except I DID.

Select
c.coach
, c.wins
, c.losses
, (c.wins/c.games) as perc
From coach_career c (nolock)
Where c.division = 'SEC'
and c.startdate > '08/01/2008'
and c.enddate < getdate()
Order by (c.wins/c.games) desc

Operative part is the where clause. Thanks.

Ok so 2008= elite. That was 6 years ago. Finishing in the middle of the pack is not elite. Every time.

It's ok if you have no idea what you're saying.

just keep chanting "let er rip" and dream of Less as you rock yourself in the fetal position.

Funny how these "flash in a pan" coaches have won at a higher rate.

That's four flashes outside of Saban already above him with two other flash in a pan coaches just behind him.

Hmmm...guess Miles has lost his flash.

How is that not falling off again?

How many different times do I have to say it before I decide he'll just never admit it?

You've posted nothing of substance, so perhaps you might take a look in a mirror before saying someone else doesn't make an actual argument.

Is Chizik an outlier to your "rule"? Or is he an example of a coach who showed some success (even, perhaps, elite for a window of time), and then trended away from elite ... as some are arguing in this thread that Miles is currently doing?

Last year they were one freak play away from another divisional title

If we're being technical about this -- they did win a divisional title. The conference officially recognizes them as Co-Champions.

SEC Divisional Tie-Breaker

quote:

In the event of a tie for the division championship

Auburn and Alabama tied.

List of Southeastern Conference champions

quote:

Occasionally, a tie between two or more teams occurs, requiring a tie-break. All teams involved in the tie breaker are considered Co-Divisional Champions, and the winner of the tie-breaker is the division's representative to the Championship Game.

Auburn and Alabama are listed as Western Division Champions.
