I have these two posters.

What makes no sense, Mike II died before 58 season, so one of these is not correct. I am guessing it is Mike II and they just used the poster again of the 59 Sugar Bowl.

There are both the same poster except the one has the 59 Sugar Bowl trophy on it:

I need to get this one reframed:

do you sell any of this stuff or just collect? I am moving into a new house in a couple of months and some antique LSU stuff would be nice to have in my room or living room, thanks.

my guess would be that they didn't have any quality pictures of the new Mike, but had some from the previous season of Mike II. I don't think such attention to detail really bothered them as both Mikes would have been around the same age and most wouldn't know the difference anyway.

Just collect. I sell stuff sometimes if I come across a big dollar item and need the funds.

Got any good places to look? I understand if you don't want to give away your hot spots or whatever.

I have a framed print of "Mike the Tiger" - period! It belonged to a very wealthy family and their daughter gave it to me in 1985. This tiger is a frontal shot of his face with his body being more behind him than a side shot. According to the lady that gave it to me it hung in her daddy's office for as long as she could remember. She is now deceased and would be around 65 years old. I am thinking it is of the first Mike as there is no numerical notation. It is a very NICE shot and garners a lot of attention even from non-fans. I will try yo upload it soon.

If I recall correctly, Mike II was the one who died suddenly and the university was afraid to tell anyone for fear it would hurt fan morale. I don't know how long they maintained the charade or to what lengths they went to keep it up, but maybe this was a part of that effort.

I think Mike II died during the 57 football season, but they officially said he died after the season. A new mike was brought in for the start of the 58 season.

The 'cover up' doesn't explain the identical pictures. That's why I was thinking they had a production quality photo of Mike II at the time the poster was made but not one of Mike III. Since they were about the same age and would look alike, they just used the old photo. They probably also thought nobody would know the difference anyway.

Ah, there you go. I wasn't sure of the exact timing of the "cover up", so I didn't know if it could explain it or not.

Actually, Mike II was rumored to have died and LSU brought in a second Mike II, who did die in New Orleans in May of 58.
