as an asst on women's basketball team.

She has an impressive resume, hopefully she'll be able to pull some top recruits to BR.

She does but I really don't think bench coaching is the issue with the women's hoops team. It's easily and far and away recruiting. And Demoss is in her 60's probably. She gonna be the missing piece there? My first perception is to say no, but I know nothing about her recruiting prowess.

a big time hire...hope it will be enough to get us 20 wins next year, but afraid the cupboard is now pretty bare

Yes, I think she'd make an excellent "bridge" head coach starting in 2017-2018.

Sounds like too little too late.
We used to have an elite program ... No more ...

Best hire that we could have made. She is an excellent recruiter and that is what we need! Nikki has become so lazy at recruiting it is quite pathetic to be honest with you.

Glad she's a great recruiter, but it's trying to put a bandaid on a hemorrhage if your head coach is too lazy to recruit/can't recruit--no matter how good an Xs and Os coach Fargas is.

How on earth can you expect Nikki to have ANY time for silly recruiting trips, with all the other stuff...like a new baby, new marriage AND all that shopping ?

What happened with her at La Tech? When Summitt resigned I thought she was going to become head coach.

She doesn't want to be a head coach. She did that at Kentucky for a few years and got out. LA Tech hired the coach from NW State. Demoss is very happy being an assistant. The only reason she was as LA Tech to begin with was so she could help Summitt Junior.
Speaking of Summitt Junior, I hope whoever signed off on the Demoss hire in the LSU athletic department was smart enough to ask her the following question: "Did you know Tyler Summitt was screwing one of the players?"
Being 250 miles away from Ruston, I have no idea...but I have a hard time believing that she didn't know. And if she DID know and didn't say anything....I am not sure I like that.

Yea,I kinda agree with where you're coming from here.
Also, I'm not sure Micki Demoss will really help this program at this point. This is probably gonna be coach Fargas' last season if the team isn't drastically better next season. It's possible that they will be better, considering what they have coming in next year (transfers and recruits). But if not, DeMoss will probably be here only one season.

Yep Nikki to busy popping out babies, spending time with hubby and worrying about how good she looks on court side rather than worrying about getting freaking basketball players here. One of the biggest disappointments to me in years at LSU. I sure thought she would be a sure none miss as women's basketball coach

I happen to think the team will be much better and make the NCAA's next year and we will all live happily every after, but that is a different discussion for a different time.
The point about DeMoss is this...given the situation, this was probably the best Nikki could do. DeMoss was basically a free agent after the LATech debacle and at age 60ish, DeMoss is at that point where she can pick and choose what she wants to do. If this thing craters again next year and Nikki is fired, then no huge loss for DeMoss. She just goes on about her business and retires or finds something else to do.
So the other point I am getting to...what other big time assistant was going to walk into this situation knowing that they could be out of a job after one year and have to go looking again? The only type of person that would consider taking this job was someone like DeMoss.

Any coach with a buyout clause in their contract is not being fired unless its for gross negligence or misconduct. Not while F King Alexander is on the watch.
Just the way it is with Fiber Optic Alexander. Wants $300 million to build new buildings at the old Alex Box, but doesn't wanna keep the buildings he's got in shape and won't let anyone else spend any money when he doesn't get his.
Dude's terrible. A total stooge the BOS has put in charge of an entire University.

This was the best possible hire Nikki could have made. Demoss is like a second face to WBB. She is very highly respected and decorated for what she has done in this sport. While she doesn't get the recognition of being a head coach, she has been vital in the success of all of the teams she has coached for.
She is a very good recruiter and outstanding XO coach.
Unfortunately, I think its a little too late. It may take another year for her to start getting elite prospects. Next years team will be better than last years but I don't think the difference will be substantial. The transfers are solid but not players that will make a huge change for this program.

My guess is she's been around long enough to have connections far and wide with high school coaches around the country....

X's and O's aren't the problem. The fact that we were starting one player from England and another from Japan who should've been ensuring proper hydration of our other scholarship athletes at the one ladies hoops game I went to this year is.
If she isn't the single best recruiter at her level of the sport, its a bad hire.
