Why did people doubt them?

1. lost to mediocre opponents.

2. demonstrated lack of poise, inability to make free throws, in close games. Guards stepping on the end line (TWICE!!), vs U of K. (the latter is a matter of dribbling ability and lack of poise, both)

Doubt heck. I thought they would have been better off in the NIT from mid season on, because I thought they would benefit from more practice time.
unrelated observation:
I did not like that so few guys got meaningful playing time.
I think they tired in the NC State game.

yeah I'm the dumb one. As I said, if you are a high % success kid that's one thing.Mickey will not get drafted by the NBA, and there is absolutely no guarantee that he will be successful in Europe...then what does he have? I was pretty clear in saying if there is any question about future success, I'd ensure I had the education...but yeah, I'm the dumb one.

Low quality players take a risk every single year and declare for the draft or play in Europe or CBA. That's just the way it is now. No one cares about a degree especially basketball players. When will you get that through your skillet head?

Wow. Martin is either a great actor or he is really considering returning.

yea, people seem to forget that, yea he may not get a 3 year/ 20 mil deal

but he can make 200k/year overseas

But then you start approaching the point where you think about it. 200k is great money for a 22-year old if you are cool with living overseas, but it's hard to put a value on being able to come back another year as a key part of a team that would likely be a minimum 3 seed next year.

Improving his draft stock isn't really an argument, as it usually doesn't really matter for the NBA or for Mickey specifically. It's just a matter of if the intangibles make it worth it to him (in addition to furthering his education) to accept the opportunity cost of missing out on a year playing in Germany or whatever.

I'm not him, and I've never been faced with a decision like this, but I think I would stay, just based on the team that's coming back.

Encouraging video. But that means nothing at this point. Doucet led him there......

Jabari also was a potential #1 pick and ended up being the 2nd pick. jarell is going to be late 1st round if he leaves this year and can be a lottery pick next year if he can develop more.

Or could have a bad year and stock goes down. With Simmons and Blakeney coming in, could he really show more than he already has? Both of those kids are probably one and done and will get a lot of exposure.

Especially if he works on that mid range jumper a bit. Simmons is a great passer

Teams wouldn't be able to collapse the defense around him when he gets the ball with Blakeney & Simmons in the fold.
