sorry if this has already been posted, if it has delete it. michael clayton just signed a 5 year $26 million contract to stay with the bucs.

Hmmm..interesting how he gets that much $$ for a pretty terrible career so far. IMO.

agreed, IMO hes only had one solid year, that was in 04 and was also rookie of the year, but nothing to impressive besides that IMO

absolutely perfect year to hit FA. nobody will sign with the bucs and they have $60M in cap room
they have to spend money to hit the league minimum in salary. i'm guessing this is pretty much the only reason he got this deal. he's been pretty terrible for tampa, and i don't think he had 500 yards receiving last year

i thought he would wait for gruden to get a gig and follow him.

glad to see him get the contract, but the bucs could've gotten the same kind of production for much less pay from FA.

I live in Tampa and follow the Bucs a bit. Seemed to me that after his rookie year, Clayton both ended up in Gruden't dog house and never really clicked with any of the many QBs that rotated through Gruden's offense.
I hope the change in staff and QB will help Clayton become productive again.
But, like everyone else, I was surprised at how big a contract he landed.

He caught a touch down against the Saints a few years ago... thats worth .75 cents.

With Gruden gone I'm thinking Clayton will have a breakout year. Gruden always went out of his way to make Clayton feel like a red-headed stepchild. Clayton has always had the talent...

This is true, but no recievers have had a huge year with the Bucs since then.

??
Clayton had 1,193 with 7tds in 2004. He has been virtually non existent since then.
Joey Galloway had 1,104 (6), 1,057(7), and 1,287(10) from 2005 to 2007
Antonio Bryant last year had 1,248 yards and 7 touchdowns

His agent needs to get props for swinging this deal!

Why would he do that? he was one of the first to speak out, applauding Gruden's firinh

I live in Tampa as well, and JP Peterson had the best response to one of his callers about this situation.
How many running plays will the Bucs have out of 70 plays in a game? The caller said probably 50, and JP said I would take Michael Clayton's 50 great plays like usual of his run blocking a support over the 2 drops per game he has all day long.
If you watch MC during the game and not look at his drops he has had, he is one of the most vital pieces to the Bucs running game since he has been here, and that is a major reason why he was re-signed.
