The fact that so many fans actually believed LSU was a Top 5 job and could get whoever they wanted is hillarious. Who the hell would want to have to compete against the Greatest College Coach Alive Today when they can sit elsewhere and make just as much money with beatable teams in the path.
Orgeron was always going to be The Guy, and all of you that believed otherwise got played. Joe Alleva can't make big moves, and he got scared and made the safe move. He already has Orgeron, but has decided to not wait, and make the safe move.
And people are SURPRISED?!?! Look in the mirror. LSU isn't a Top 5 job as long as Saban is at Alabama. He controls the SEC.
ETA: I'm glad it's Orgeron. I think he we do great, and will make LSU a real competitor again. If Steve Ensminger can run this offense, anyone with half a brain can.

Not in the Top 5. And that's all that matters in this situation. The claim all along was that it was a Top 5 job, yet they couldn't pull an established coach from a school that apparently can't pay it's assistants what LSU can (not to mention a guy that supposedly wanted to come back to LSU), or a rising star at a school that doesn't have the facilities or tradition that LSU does.
So, I don't know where LSU ranks, but it's not in the Top 5 apparently.
