Not sure. All I know is a lot of people were thinking 2012 would be the year we'd make a serious run. Funny.

Just some random predictions from 2011.

ETA: Most all agreed we'd be a 10-2 team.

No one projected Mathieu to be as good as he was. Does this years team have a Mathieu?

Count me in this group. I was thinking 10-2 then big bowl win to set up 2012 NC run.

The big suprise was the Offense. We had more returning talent that year but Beckham an Landry came out of nowhere as did Hill and Hilliard. Could be a similar season this year if the young guys produce.

Hill wasn't on the team in 2011. And Landry barely played and made an impact on special teams mainly. I think the the 2014 offense could be similar to the 2010/11 offense. The defense could be at a 2011 level but with the linebacking corps doing a lot of the dirty work. The 2014 linebackers will be the strength of the defense, and that's saying a lot with a very experienced defensive backfield.

What?

LSU was a top 5 team in the preseason polls in 2011. That's all you need to know about what the country as a whole thought.

Bama was the overwhelming pick, much like they and Auburn are this year.

LSU not only went undefeated that season, despite playing one of, if not the, toughest schedules in the country. They obliterated everybody in their path but tGumps, we only managed to barely beat them on their home turf.

Up until that horrible day in NOLA, that squad was considered one of the best college football had ever seen, period. Our QB the majority of that season...Jarrett fricking Lee?

While it would be nice, LSU has shown over the years the ability to field great teams without great QB play.

Much like previous years, the QB(s) will simply be asked to manage the game...ie not lose it by INT's etc..

Throw in CC coaching these guys, and I think we'll be good enough for great things.

2011 was a magical season. Everything fell in place and the ball bounced the right way. The team did play a monster schedule. and did whip arse. This was the 1st season that Miles had a team worth talking about as a top ten team though after what happened in 2008 and 2009. I think Miles [lost] those team leader wise. IMO.

However I will give Phil Steele credit for his 2003 prediction on LSU being a title contender that year. I felt the same way with what they could have done in 2002 had Mauck not got injured.

I may be in the minority here, but I think the 2003 team was better than the 2011 team. Better QB play, and a better D. PLUS won the whole thing.

It was easily the most difficult schedule in the country. That schedule was being talked about "all-time" status. If we win the BCSCG, that team goes down as the best or 2nd best team of all time.

I will agree here. And with only half decent qb play.

Meh, IIRC LSU was on a lot of "most overrated" lists during the preseason, and a lot thought Oregon (at the peak of their hype) and Bame was going to stomp us and possibly another loss. This board was banging the drum that this wasn't going to be our year

After that Oregon game everyone knew we were legit though.

Man that D was special

I believe we were ranked top 5 preseason. Oregon was ranked number 3, and we were either 4 or 5. After that game, we were in the top 3. I do believe we are being overlooked this year. This team will be better than most are predicting. Simply because this time around we have a true offensive coordinator who will get the most out of our inexperienced quarterbacks. And with the offensive line we have returning, we will run the ball at will. And our defense will be much improved from last season.

2011 schedule was rough. We lost to a great team. In 2003 we lost to a shitty uf team and squeeked in because other teams faltered much like 2007. I can't say 2003 was a better squad. When they didn't have to play a nick saban coached bama team twice. With more talent than anyone we faced in 2003.

In one season, we defeated the champions of the Big East/Orange Bowl, Pac-12/Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and one of Bama's GOAT teams. Not only did we win, we destroyed all of them save Bama.

That Tiger team was one of the greats. Imagine if a seasoned Mett had been the QB...unstoppable.
