There were many negatives last night. But what scares me the worst for the rest of the SEC season was the way they found a weak link in our secondary and exploited it.

It seemed like Kevin Tolliver was beaten EVERY time in one-on-ones with their receivers who are average at best.

Other SEC teams with much bigger/stronger/better receivers saw this and will exploit it also. Donte Jackson and Tre White looked fine, but we have some weaknesses in our secondary that better teams will eat up!

I think it's correctable. KT was in good position almost all night, he needs to start looking for the ball and will be fine imo

He wasn't beaten, he was in great position just about every time. He just needs to locate the ball and make a play. It's a concern going forward, but a lot less of a concern than a CB who can't cover

He had this same issue last year. He would always have such great coverage, only to give up the catch because he has no idea where the ball is.

He actually was not beaten. Tolliver consistently was in good position. He just needs to pay attention to where the ball is and get his head turned around.

I agree cbiscuit, people need to calm the frick down about KT. Auburn and Uf can't pass for shite anyway. He's got time to figure out how to turn his head.

Edit: we have mizz sandwiched between those 2 and Lock has put up decent numbers. Guess I'll have to acknowledge them as an SEC team now.

Fred Ross was 2nd in the SEC in receptions last year and 4th in yards. He's really f'n good. He was 6-89-1 last night, which was a third of their catches and about 40% of their passing yards. Sometimes, the other team has guys who can play, too. State's not a great team, but Ross is gonna play on Sundays. I'm not gonna panic if he has a good game against a team. He'll do about that to everyone.

Tolliver had some busted coverages, but by and large, he just lost a few battles to an All-SEC player. It happens.

Teams will complete passes on us. Keep in mind our defense has been practicing vs one of the worst passing offenses in the country...give them some slack

You think there are bigger, stronger, better receivers than #8? That guy is a stud! One of the things I think is funniest about the rant is when LSU players play great, and the rant thinks they played poorly. It happens often. Last night our secondary was awesome. State's passing game was very unproductive with a low percentage and a low yardage per play. And this was in spite of #8 making some great plays.

They picked on #13 a lot in the 4th quarter.

This is a fruitless effort. Our fans do not recognize this fact

I think Tolliver has the skill set to be a top corner. I knew him missing spring was going to be huge

I am always amused by people on this board who think they know football but are clueless, then call others "morons" because they disagree.

I stand by my post. Tolliver has consistently lost man-on-man battles for the ball. He is too small and weak to stop physical receivers. Our opponents know this and throw at him with great success on 3rd down and whenever they need a play.

If you watched football and had the slightest clue, you would see that.

So call me a moron if you like. But the facts are pretty clear. There are weaknesses in our secondary that can and will be exploited. And Tolliver's inability to be physical is an obvious one.

He did get beat going for the ball.

That receiver was not "average at best" though. Ross is one of the better receivers in the SEC.

He would be LSUs best receiver.

I think people will only be satisfied if we hold teams to 0 yards and opposing qbs to 0/30 passing.

You do realize even Harris completed some passes right?? We can't have a 3 and out on every single drive.

Tolliver did have some passes completed on him. A lot of them he had great coverage and the receivers made a great catch. I'm sure Aranda noticed the same thing and will work on Tolliver getting his head to the ball and knocking them away. If he sees those balls he may have had 2-3 picks and we are saying he's the hero of the defense. He was there, he didn't get beat. Just didn't make the plays to knock the ball away.
