I thought this kid was going to be a solid contributor but they seem to be giving him less opportunities this season. What gives? Lacks defense?
Through 9 nine games this season
Avg Minutes = 14.8
Avg Pts = 7.3
Last season
Avg Minutes = 26
Avg Pts = 14.5

Defensive liability......

Monty likes a defensive guy...

Dang okay...that's what I was afraid of. Think he fits in well anywhere else?
Posted on 11/18/10 at 11:15 am to Gizmeaux
Monty has flat out said he's not playing and won't be any time soon because he doesn't "get it" on the defensive end.

Trade bait unfortunately. Monty has not been in tune with Marcus.

He can score 20 points easily but his scoring does not come within the flow of the the offense.
Also, it doesn't matter if you score 20 but can't stop anyone on the other end. If they need a basket there going after Thornton.
A backcourt with Paul and Thornton is awfully small too when your playing shooting guards like Kobe, Durant, etc.

This disappoints me so much. Thorton has come out and said that he has never really been coached defensively. He's a true scorer that plays with reckless abandon, but... mfer can't play defense, and you all are right; the dude is trade bait!!!

"He's going to be fine," Hornets guard Chris Paul said of Thornton. "We had to help him to understand that last year was last year. It's sometimes easy to do well on a team that's not that good or not that great. This team here has an opportunity to be special. We just have to find out where we all fit in."

Damn.. CP3 basically told him.. the only reason you played last year is we sucked and did not have anyone else....

Monty loves defense and MT was struggling defensively.

Unfortunately that is how it goes in the NBA. Perfectly good players get left on the bench and cut from rosters due to little personality conflicts and politics.
Monty Williams seems to be on a little power kick as his team started out 8-0. When their record falls back to earth I would expect that the substitution patterns open up.
In basketball, I prefer a little offense to defense as long as the guy is giving an effort on D.

Won't be traded unless he could be tied with an expoiring contract (Peja)

Clearly you have not watched the Hornets this year and know little about Monty Williams.

Marcus is good but dosn't fit the new system of the team he's on

The Golden State Warriors would be a good fit for him if Don Nelson kept coaching.
They don't teach defense out there.

Or PHX, but he wouldn't crack their lineup

I think that's the idea.

I bet MT5 would be pretty good for the Knicks. Could crack the line up and doesn't have to worry about defense at all.
PG R. Felton
SG M. Thornton
SF Danilo Gallinari
PF A. Stoudemire
C Timofey Mozgov/Ronny Turiaf/Eddy Curry
Imagine if they got Melo in the offseason!
Posted on 11/18/10 at 9:07 pm to Suntiger
That would be something for sure

Then Monty needs to teach him D. I remember Marcus being pretty damn good at stealing the ball...now teach him to stick someone.
I wouldn't trade someone that could shoot lights out like he can and create his own shot no matter who is on him. He could be deadly coming off the bench if they work with him. He had a damn good rookie year and could get much better.
