LSU Tigers (4-0)
I'm getting a little concerned about the Tigers' defense. Both Auburn and Mississippi State were able to put up points against LSU better than nearly anyone else they've played. The good news: RB Charles Scott had another huge game.
Last game: Beat Mississippi State, 34-24.
Next game: Oct. 11 at Florida

Any sane person would be worried about our defense. So far, it's had some issues.

as well he should be worried. im worried after allowing state to score more points in 1 game than they did all year.

we have talent but the scheme is not my favorite and we have had major trouble causing turnovers. also we dont like to tackle low our guys love going high.

Evidently to some people here, questioning LSU's D is the equivelant of burning the flag. Facts are facts and yes, I agree. Nothing that can't be fixed, but a little tepper like, too much for my nerves.

i think that is part of having to watch us get crushed over and over bc of tepper makes any sign of trouble a worry. I don't wana go back to shoot outs.

It's more like pass D. Our run D is as good as you can get, but we're very poor on those 3rd and long downs. Coverage is horrible. The slot receivers and RBs really expose McCray, Jones, the safeties and the LBs in coverage. We're not matching up players.

This is also the same guy that has USF #8, a team that will be out of it by week 7.

Tepper wasn't the only issue in the day!

there are some issues....but considering RJF and C. Alexander went out early and Beckwith was already out....the 24 points to state doesn't seem as bad

I think they will be fine

I'm worried too! Our talent along the line is great, when healthy, but McCray and some of our db play has been awful at times, and trying to cover running backs catching passes out the backfield has been a nightmare, especially against Moo St. I think our D should be able to shut any team down, however we have yet to reach that potential yet. But there is time, and we are undefeated, something USC, Georgia, and Florida can't say, and Ga and Fla lose at home!

When you give up more points to a team than Louisiana Tech did, you have a right to worry. I have faith it will get better but you have to have your head in the sand at this point not to be concerned.

Anybody who is honest with themselves would be as well. If honesty doesn't do the trick, results should. Below is a breakdown of how each Champ since 2000 has ranked nationally on defense at the end of the season. Rankings are presented (Total Defense/Scoring Defense).

'07 - LSU (3/17) *note: If you remove the two OT games and we are ranked 2nd in scoring defense.
'06 - UF (6/6)
'05 - UT (10/8)
'04 - USC (6/3)
'03 - LSU (1/1)
'02 - OSU (23/2)
'01 - UM (6/1)
'00 - OU (8/7)

Since 2000, no champ has finished statistically outside of the Top 10 in both of the two defensive categories. LSU is currently 19th in Total D and 18th in scoring. We have some ground to make up if a trip to Atlanta is in the cards.

Anyone else realize that Moo State started a different QB against us than they did in their other games?

Wes Carroll had thrown 6 INTs prior to the LSU game, so he was benched. Lee had a pretty good game against up, looks like an upgrade.

Not saying I'm happy with the LSU pass D so far, but come on, comparing what Moo State did against us, to their other games, isn't quite accurate.

I agree in a large part...but sometimes I think we are asking to cover for too long of a period...no pressure on the QBs

I'm not overly concerned about our defense. Our defense did not play bad against Moo St and AU. We gave AU 7 points and AU/LSU is always a close game no matter how much disparity is between the 2. Moo St played with inspiration against us and a new QB. We are going to get everybodies best shot. Do we need to improve - yes, should we push the panic button - no!

Not downplaying the concerns, but I think things will be different when Beckwith comes back and if Francois is healthy for the FLA game (both he and Alexander missed a large part of the Moo State game).
