Harris didn't do well against Auburn...that was Harris and Fournette's Freshman year, the year we got smoked at Jourdan-Hare.

Etling is not Harris. He's proven that so far. I know his stat line didn't wow, but he showed he could move the ball and when DE16 was in the game the defense had to respect the pass. NOBODY did that when Harris was in the ballgame. Give DE a chance, he will lead this team.

Things I liked about DE, he sensed pressure, stepped into the pocket and saw the field fairly well. He made 3-4 bad passes out of 16, I can live with that. He plays a marginal SEC quality team this Saturday, I'll refrain from judging until then.
I agree with all that except" 3-4 bad passes out of 16".

Stop all the fearful antics. This the ONLY way he is going to grow and mature. I can only expect some mistakes but he certainly can not be worse than BH. This will build his character and team chemistry.

nailed it.

I can't get that excited about his performance against an FCS opponent. Let's see how this stretch of four games go.

I think Auburn will be a legit test. MSU, not so excited about.

I think both QB's need to be ready to play at any minute. I don't see one being exclusive here on out.

Hopefully Etling isn't reading TigerDroppings during the season. He needs to focus on his craft and not see message board opinions.

One game at a time. Receivers were wide open. He made D. Will look like an all-SEC back with the draws and passes. And I saw misdirection attempts in the game. Crazy as it sounds, we never could see any of that with Harris because of the inconsistencies he presented as a passer and the lack of first downs generated.

With all that said Etling showed an understanding of the position that has not been seen in some time regardless of any flaws that were observed. Confidence and heart along with some improvement are what I'm looking for now because he is pretty much what he will be except a bit sharper in execution throughout the season.

@AU & @UF should scare people. Especially with how suspect the offense is.

Les has beaten tiger nation into submission with such bad qb play that when we see anything but a bomb completed people start to get really excited. It's truly sad just how bad the passing game has been.

Etling and Harris played against the same defense last week. Etling was better.

Harris took 6 snaps attempted 4 passes, and he was awful.

Etling was better in the 2nd quarter, but what about when Etling missed a wide open JD Moore in the flats, sailed the ball on Guice who was incredibly wide open on the wheel route, got sacked and fumbled, and then overthrew Dupre by 10 yards as he ran free on the left? Those 4 drop backs in a row are just as bad as anything we've seen from Harris this year.

He may not be good, but hes damn sure better than the other guy.

There is essentially 0 evidence that this is true at this point, and surely you'd think an LSU fan would have learned their lesson given our history with the back-up saving the day in limited action.

FWIW, I hope you're right and Etling is a world beater. However, people who are suggesting we pump the brakes have a good point. They're not suggesting Harris needs to play, yet people can't help but shite on Harris while trying to prop up Etling. Just focus on what Etling did well - namely leading the team from a vocal standpoint, an efficient and accurate 2nd quarter, and calming the fans and vibe in the stadium - and leave the other shite out of it.

EXACTLY! I have to admit all I could do was smile during the 2d qtr when Etling, and our OFF, rediscovered the forward pass and how it can compliment your overall OFF by opening up huge holes for your running game. Balance at it's best, and it has been a long time since we have seen that at LSU.

With that said his 2d half performance was shaky, but he still never looked lost. There were NO blown T/O's due to play clock mismanagement, dumbfounded looks to the sidelines, etc. Calm and cool. We forget as a FR/SO at Purdue Etling played against Ohio St, Nebraska, Mich St, Penn St, ND and Iowa...some home, some away. He has been in big games, and it showed with his poise.

This week vs MSU is the perfect opp to establish the run with LF/Guice, and balance it with timely Etling passes downfield or check downs to the RB's. Keep the TE in the game plan, and take selective shots downfield with the right matchups. Can't wait to watch the game Sat night,

Well, he is better than what we had so that is a plus for us. He's earned a shot IMO.

How do we know that? Harris played a supposed top FBS defense and went 12/21, 131 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. One INT was not his fault.

Then we have Etling, going up against an FCS team (I don't care how many FBS cast-offs they have they are still FCS mostly and no depth), proceeds to go 6-14, 100 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT (his fault) against said FCS defense.

Harris had 2 series. TWO! I am not a Harris defender, but some of you are ridiculous with the praise and "potential" y'all believe you see from Etling.

Nevermind the fact that we saw completely different playcalling when Etling was succeeding and when asked to run the same plays that BH ran, he failed running it too.

This is identical to Harris in 2014. He came into the MSU game for the last few minutes, and since LSU had to open it up down double digits, he thrived. When they went back to it against Auburn, he struggled and the environment got to him.

If Les and company aren't willing to open up the offense and be creative and more spread out, then Etling will get the same results. He's not light years better than Harris and may not be any better long term. We will see I guess.

i remember seeing the same thing said a few years back when brandon Harris came in for an in ineffective A. Jenning against auburn and looked great . I like the enthusiam but heck DE threw for like a 100 yards against JSU.

Yep that is what I have been trying to tell all of my sunshine pumpers that think the next Mett is here!!! Look Etling looked FANTASTIC in the 2nd qtr but truly look like crap in the 2nd half. So cautiously optimistic is how I feel about Etling right now.

Look the reality is I didn't think it could get any worse then Harris has been these last 7 games, but then again I thought that about Jennings and I personally feel that Harris was worse then Jennings even with the 7-0 start last year that was mainly due to LF anyway. So I am cautiously optimistic, the big positive I see that hopefully translates to success on the field is that we finally have the right style of QB "pro-style pocket passer" in Etling running the offense I just hope he is the right QB to go with that.

Some people thrive on it, some people shite their britches.

Etling will be fine IF the OL protection holds up.

17/25 200+

Fournette will get 150+

D will hold the cowbells to 10

27-10 LSU

I hope DE can just be a game manager can get the ball to an open player. When is the last time an LSU QB could audible out to a pass when 10 guys were in the box on defense? not expecting this but if he can get the ball to wr/rb's we will be fine if not its gonna be a long final season for the fans and Les.

He looks confident and doesn't look confused when he's out there. Maybe, just maybe, the kid is tough and won't let Miles turn him into a dependent softie out there. A coach needs a quarterback who can say, "coach I got this, I know the playbook, so call anything you want, and I'll make independent decisions on the field."

I posted elsewhere pump the brakes as some of the drops were not great throws.

Some weren't great. However, 2 were nearly perfect and cost LSU about 60 yards of offense. Guice's drop was likely going to be a touchdown. Also, it's apples to oranges to compare Etling's bullpen appearance to any of Brandon's. Etling has started against Big Ten defenses, endured the speed of the game under extreme duress. He's no rookie and will not be shaken by anything he sees from MSU on Saturday.
