Was that Stallings 5th blown save of the year?

That makes him 12 for 17 on the year in save opportunities, not so hot.

His overall numbers still look good, but that is because he excelled pre-SEC. His SEC only numbers are not impressive. 3.45 ERA and .311 opponents' BA. 19 hits allowed in 15.2 IP. Not the numbers you want in a closer.

Person should get a shot at closer IMO. Lefty, above average velocity, nice breaking ball, and throws strikes. Winning combo for a closer.

Godfrey would be a boss closer

I think Bain is our best option on Sunday's.

He's been given chances lately , but just gets shelled, and is currently a liability. Interesting to see who they go with.

Mainieri was asked about Godfrey specifically... Said he had everything it takes to be a good closer, but suggested they may take a 'by committee' approach. He also named Bugg, Person and two or three others.

Newman is the guy, and I'm hearing Godfrey strong chance at closer next year.

Stallings
Cartwright
Bouman

None are getting it done against SEC hitters

Glad to hear that. Stallings has really struggled lately. He really needs another pitch IMO. I'm fine with a by committee approach.

I Like Godfrey because he has 3 big league pitches. 90s fast ball, Changeup, and a wicked curve. Stallings comes in and throws 90+ right down the middle, good teams figured that out pretty quick

Newman deserves a bigger role. He's been excellent this year. Godfrey could be an interesting option at closer. It would probably be next year but he really does seem to have the closer mentality and stuff to do it.

I wish the roles were more defined at the back end of the bullpen by this point in the season but we definitely have the arms in Newman, Bugg, Person, and Cartwright. Just need to figure out who fits where

I'd throw Godfrey and Reynolds in that group.
