I should have too. I trust both of them. Reynolds working out of the bases loaded jam on Sunday was huge. We have a very deep bullpen and still struggle holding on to leads at times. I'm waiting for them to click, and them doing that could make for a postseason run

Well let's be honest, Stallings has blown quite a few games. Think if we won two of them in SEC play, next weekend wouldn't even matter.

All is well, I'm very confident we will get it done next weekend, just like we did in 13'. Last series of the weekend in 13' with everything on the line against USC.

At this point in the season let's not even designate a closer. I am good with the closer by committee concept. Stallings will still be a vital part of our staff going forward. I would like to see Person close a game this weekend.

Reynolds was one he mentioned along with Bugg and Person.

Anyone know how many total blown saves we have this year? (Not just stallings)

I would be fine with Newman, bugg, or person. They have been clutch and lights out pretty much all year

stallings should still be a guy who pitches i semi crunch time from here on out imo.
the dude is still a top 3-4 bullpen guy even with his slight struggles.

but yeah id put person at closer.
having a lefty with his stuff will confuse opposing hitters in the 9th.

Newman
Person
Bugg
Reynolds
Godfrey

Are all clearly better than Stallings, and his struggles aren't "slight" .... He's been struggling very badly since SEC play started.

His overall numbers still look good, but that is because he excelled pre-SEC. His SEC only numbers are not impressive. 3.45 ERA and .311 opponents' BA. 19 hits allowed in 15.2 IP. Not the numbers you want in a closer.

Most decent hitters in the SEC will eventually get around on the fastball. Particularly when they know it's pretty much all they have to look for.

Newman, Person, and Bugg are the 3 I consider good next to Stallings mainly because Godfrey hasnt been as relevant in the bullpen, but Stallings definitely has good stuff and will be solid for years to come. We just just cant expect him to be like Matty Ott in his first year.

Stallings will be loved in the future. He just got thrown into a posistion he cant handle in his first year.
And that shite happpens.

Stallings ball is flat and he plops it in the wheel house. Idc how hard you throw, mid thigh pitches blow saves.

I cannot understand this thinking. You want your closer to come in and walk batters and hit them. A closer needs to throw strikes, and Godfrey's problem is control. He'd be an awful closer, just what you don't want.

No, it's Newman. Bugg, maybe. Person would be good, but he's too valuable as our only reliable lefty in the pen.

I was frankly surprised he put him out there Sunday.

I see you haven't watched a game in about a month.

I've always preferred the closer to be a guy who can come in and throw heat. All you need is two pitches to be a closer. A smokin fastball and a change or curve. A cutter even better. But that's probably rare in college.

I'd be fine with not designating a closer. There are plenty pitchers on this team that can close out a game.

Godfrey's appearances the past month against SEC teams:
A&M: 0.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 BB, 0 SO
A&M: 2.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 SO
MSU: 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 SO
MSU: 2.2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 SO, 1 HBP
MIZ: 2 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 SO

Totals: 8.1 IP, 3.24 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, 11.9 K/9

I thought he was doing better than this. Those aren't closer numbers.

Yea, Godfrey has been hit or miss. I just think Bug deserves a shot. He seem to have pretty good numbers, but gets lost in the shuffle. Although I may not realize his numbers may be a little worse than I am thinking too.
