imho the biggest thing is simply a mindset change - that we like our qb, we have confidence in our qb to make all throws, and we are going to practice throwing in real games early in the year, even if we risk having to lose a game. we will also be willing to pull a qb out of the game and give someone else a chance, even if just to give the starter some thinking time.

this mindset change means we don't place in our qb in obvious passing downs ALL OF THE TIME! we have to trust our qb. which means letting him make mistakes early in the year.

we have got to get rid of the philosophy that the most important part of the game is not to make a mistake! mistakes are part of the game - they must be minimized, but not to the point of paralyzing your qb. that's my take.

My mindset is that we need a qb, a different playbook, etc....

This is utter bullshite. You pass the ball just because and cost yourself a win.

We need a mindset that prevents our QB playing like it's game 1 in game 11.

the philosophy can't be I formation toss dive all spring and fall, spread formation in an emergency...

we've seen that play out now with crowton, strudawa, cameron and jefferson, jennings and harris. always the same result.

Copy that. Our entire off season should be focused on getting 2 qbs better and to start running stretch plays. You can't run the ball into the teeth of Alabama and expect to be successful on a regular basis

ETA: and for goodness sakes let's get some screens don't pat. You see other programs killing teams with screen passes. Our rbs should be destroying teams woth screen passes

that's your opinion. you can overcome a loss at the beginning of the season if you are developing your team to be better. look at this team. no short to intermediate passing game because we wouldn't take the risk of passing more against weaker teams.

doesn't mean you lose. the road to success is littered with failures.

this staff wants to avoid mistakes (turnovers) at all costs - that, imho, is the cancer eating away at this team.

hell, man, you have to take risks. i'm not talking about stupid risks.

I see great coaches do it year in and year out.

You most certainly do not see teams going away from their strengths just to do it and are ok with losing. No great coach sacrifices a win in order to practice another phase of the game. Not one.

Agree! We need to add a new quarterback to the team. Perhaps a bit of competition is what Harris needs.

Nothing will change. Enjoy at least three losses again next year with the exact same offense.

how do you make passing a strong part of your game if you don't work at it?

look at nick saban this year with the ole miss game? he was struggling to find a qb - so he started his 2d qb over coker. he took a big risk in order to get better. He lost the game, but he found his qb - coker, when he put him back in.

would it have killed us to try 5 - 10 slants, screens and curls, and a couple passes over the middle against auburn, w.Kentucky, E Michigan, S Carolina? we could've still run the ball plenty.

I'm not asking this staff to change their personality. look at all the passes harris was missing on. he had no confidence. why didn't we take a risk and put Jennings in at some point this season?

I don't want a big 12 or Oregon style offense. I don't think big changes are needed. but we have to take some chances to develop our damn qb's. we have to take some chances on qb's we don't play. For heaven's sakes, we have to take some more risks trying to find a passing game to complement our power game. That's all I'm saying.

No, we don't need a change! We've got a nice coach that wins at least 8 games a season and gets us third place at best! What changes would you possibly make from that now? You got to be kidding me right? This is great! Nice guys always finish fourth and we ok with that now stop asking for a change!

Completions are needed. We run a good offense. If Harris can hit the open receivers then our running game would open up. We run a lot of different plays from different formations.

Things we need to fix

1. Penalties- these took away several great chances to put away games and to stay in games, Ole Miss

2. Defensive lapses- way to many big plays this year. We had one great defensive game. Texas AM

3. Improved QB play. Harris was a big improvement over Jennings. We need someone to come in and improve his footwork and accuracy.
