I was looking at the football roster a couple days ago and besides noticing that Ethan Pocic is a junior it stuck out that he was from Lemont, Ill. (Lemont HS). It really sounded familiar to me but I couldn't put a finger on it.

Last night while watching the baseball game I had the roster open to keep up with all the pitchers LSU was using. I realized why Pocic's home town and high school sounded so familiar.

Jake Latz - Lemont, Ill. (Lemont HS)
Michael Papierski - Lemont, Ill. (Lemont HS)

With Jake Godfrey - New Lenox, Ill. there are three players on the baseball team from Illinois.

Besides Pocic LSU football also has Clifton Garrett from Plainfield Illinois.

That's five football and baseball players from Illinois. You wouldn't think this would be a normal recruiting area for LSU. Wonder who they have this year?

Ethan Pocic's mom & dad befriended my uncle his freshman year and have been coming to our tailgates each season; really nice family and have been considering moving from Illinois to Baton Rouge since. I know they bought a house in the area.

I think it's more of a case of going where the talent is versus building a pipeline. Latz and Papierski have two guys they graduated with also playing D1 baseball. One at Houston and one at St Louis U.

When Pocic committed to LSU I posted here that he was exactly the kind of person who would be loyal to his commitment and would work his arse off when he got here. My family on both sides is from northern Illinois and I said that Northern Illinois folk make up their minds as to what they want to do and they do it. Some criticized that as generalizing folks from that part of Illinois as if they had a homogeneous culture. But what folks down here don't get is that some parts of Illinois do have homogeneous culture. We should continue to look in that area for quality people as it is under-recruited and certainly worth the attention.

Only living 10 min away from Lemont it is very surprising to see so many people from Illinois going to LSU

I also only live 10 minutes away from Lemont and it is great to see LSU bringing in some Illinois kids. Not too many LSU fans around here. Hopefully we can start growing the fanbase more now with the recruiting because I am so sick of this Big Ten crap everywhere you go.
