LSU's Passing Game - By the Numbers

The first half of the season was mostly Jennings completing a few long passes to Dural and Harris lighting it up in the second halfs against MSU and NMST. Harris hasn't played since the Auburn game and opposing teams have figured out that the only pass that Jennings throws well is the deep rainbow to Dural. They have taken that option away and Jennings has been unable to make any other throws with consistency.
Harris is the only QB on the roster with the arm to make all of the throws. He is also more of a running threat than Jennings. He's a freshman, so he will make mistakes, but he can also makes plays that Jennings can't. I'm convinced that if he gets a few games under his belt he will settle down and make enough plays to keep defenses honest and force some of those defenders out of the box.
Jennings is regressing because opposing teams have film on him now and are exploiting his physical limitations. Miles answer has been to abandon the passing game and go completely one dimensional. Wrong answer and our offensive production has showed that.

The only thing I get from this data is that Harris's playing time is directly proportional to the passing production. On average the more snaps he gets the more yards, 3rd down conversions, and points we get.

So we passed better against crap competition? And in the state game Harris played better when the game was all but lost? Shut the frick up, your ruined my Friday morning.

The difference is that we aren't playing cupcakes anymore so Dural can't just run pass everybody for a TD. I said regression before, but it's more because the defenses are better. I don't think Jennings has regressed or progressed.
Now the pass catchers didn't do him any favors against Alabama (slipping, running the wrong routes, dropping passes), but he has just been pretty consistently bad throughout.
While it won't help much unless he can be a little more accurate, putting him in the shotgun with a 3 WR set, while giving him more than 5 seconds before the snap to read the defense, would be better.
I mean Jennings being inaccurate is one thing, but the bunch formation, 1 WR routes, 5 seconds to read defense pre-snap, is likely not helping him at all. Also, would it kill them to roll him out more and do some speed option and more read option?
IMO, the coaches are doing more to hinder these kids than they are doing themselves.

Big step up in competition in the 2H of the season. QB hurries are way up in the 2H although our OL had been improving up to Ark. I would like to see a breakdown of WR drops by game and by player because that has stalled drives as well as Jennings' lack of accuracy.

I copy and pasted the whole thing because that's all that needs to be said on this entire issue.

Fabius is 100000 times correct!!!! Anyone who disagrees does not know the game.

I keep saying it. Miles is the anti-Sumlin. They are just alike in different ways. One wants to pass all day long and one wants to run it all day long.
The only thing that separates the two are the defenses. You HAVE to be two-dimensional on offense to win championships.
And I'm not one that wants aTm offense. I much rather run an AU system than aTm. Especially with Harris in the fold.
Running should be more of a focal point of success to an aggressive offense, but be creative. AU uses misdirection and creativity with their offensive attack while running the ball. They spread teams out and make them defend sideline to sideline. We do not do any of these things.

Fabius is on point, but some of these guys don't know shite about football!

What I take is a fundamental change in offensive coaching philosophy which resulted in less playing time for Harris.

the difference is due to the level of competition. the SEC is much harder than the others. msu was mop up duty. the other major difference is the time of the season when defenses know what you got (or don't got) and play accordingly. no respect for our passing game.

Film is out on Jennings. Teams will just stack the box and force him to pass on 3rd down.

Right. The rent a wins aren't exactly stellar competition. Against Wisky, there was a couple of big pass plays and against MSU there was a flurry of ball movement late in the 4th quarter, those would be the exceptions against decent competition.

If you go watch Wisconsin highlights and then watch arkansas highlights (were there any?) you'll see Jennings has regressed a ton
