using what formula?

if both teams get the ball to start a half, how is one guaranteed one more possession?

Not very good math...you are wrong..say LSU defers..flrida gets the ball first but the half ends with lsu with the ball..same amount of possesions..now LSU gets the ball at half so we are plus one on them then lsu ends the game with the ball

Well, I don't know how you're going to make the Rose Bowl since that's traditionally Pac-10 v. Big-10, but good luck with that.

You can watch us on TV in the National Championship game.

Defer you big dummy, you'll get the ball in the second half.

Think about it, score right before half-time, get it back and score again.

Plus deferring adds in the possibility of losing a possession and being behind. Then getting the ball back to start the half.

+1

always do this on Madden, and even if i don't win the toss people for some reason just don't like to defer

I NEVER understand why teams defer.

If you take the ball, you GUARANTEE yourself either the same number of possessions as the other team during a game, or you get ONE more possesion.

If you defer, it's the opposite. You either get the same amount, or one less. Somewhere in the last 10 years, someone outsmarted the process.

Here's the drive chart from LSU/UGA last week. UGA got the ball in the first half. Final tally: LSU 12 possesssions, UGA 11. Your math is flawed.

I didn't. I was wrong.

If there is an odd number of possesions in the 1st half, and an even number in the 2nd half, the team that accepts gets one more possesion.

however

If there is an even number of possessions in the 1st half, and an odd number in the 2nd, the team that defers gets one more possession.

Math FAIL

Another, easier way to say it would be that the team that gets the ball most ends up with more possessions.
