is because the lack of talent in state of LA doesn't support it.
There are some nice players in state, but it doesn't produce the talent like Texas and other states.
In order to sustain any success they have to recruit in places where it's difficult to do that.

It's the main reason LSU has been able to sustain the football program once they started keeping that talent in state.

We have multiple very good programs at LSU that are highly dependent on OOS talent for success

Want to be successful or competitive? Invest into a good coach and give them the resources

I think basketball is gonna be in the doldrums for a very long Time

They killed the "rizz" around the program

I don't buy this. We were on the right path with WW. We're starting from scratch now.

Just need to invest more in the program. Start with a full renovation or demolition of the PMAC..

IMO, we CAN sustain a program that makes the NCAA Ty every season. WW and Dale Brown showed that.

Our state is a small state and our most competitive sports programs do rely on out-of-state talent. My wife and I were commenting last night in The Box just how many players we have from places like Florida and California.

Louisiana produces many good fball players, BUT, LSU could not be a NC contender with 90% LA talent.

True, but basketball is the easiest sport of the major sports to build a competitive roster in a short period of time.

Smaller roster makes it easier to build (and reload) fast.

Small state or big state, good basketball coaches should be able to put together a competitive roster in short order.

Football coaches it could take 3 years (arguably 4 years), basketball coaches it should only take 1-2 years IMO.

LSU got to the final four in 2006 and almost the entire roster was from within 50 miles of Baton Rouge

First off, we just had a coach here that basically had 4 NCAAT teams in a row here. We had another coach a few decades ago who routinely had us in the NCAAT. Not sure what your definition of "power" is but we ABSOLUTELY can and have been in the past annual NCAAT team.

On Wade's last team here we had ZERO scholarship in state players on it. and last I checked that was a pretty good team. On his other teams that made the NCAAT we had 2-3 players from LA on them on scholarship. This is basketball, in-state recruiting matters very little, kids go everywhere in basketball. You recruit nationally.

It's not difficult to recruit nationally in basketball, as again players go everywhere.

on top of all this, there's the portal, which has almost 2k players in it each offseason looking to go wherever to better their situation.

The players on Wade's last team were from:
Maryland
Illinois
Georgia
Florida
Nevada
Pennsylvania
California
Virginia
Texas

This is just an awful thread that's way out of touch.

The reigning SEC player of the week is from Baton Rouge.

A first team all conference West Coast Conference player is from Baton Rouge.

Tulane’s leading scorer and All Conference player is from right next to Baton Rouge.

It’s a per capita analysis
Vermont has fewer than 650,000 people. New Hampshire fewer than 1.4M
Together they have fewer than half the population of Louisiana.

We have been and we can be again. We went to final 4’s in 81 & 86 surrounded closely by other seasons in which we were sweet 16 or elite 8.
It’s all about the right fit at coach and high level recruiting- not just at the state level but nationally.
It’s been done here.

Per capita doesn’t really tell you much. We still don’t have many top quality prospects

Alabama has exactly one player on their roster from the state of Alabama…and he’s a 1 year transfer.

Basketball isn’t like football…and I think that is part of the reason we have so many unintelligent posts about basketball on here. Many LSU fans view it through the prism of football
