After watching the first game, I felt very concerned. The second one brought me hope, there were glimpses of fantastic all around play and they did it consistently. Caldwell now has her style of play! We are very quick this year, we will cause more turnovers. Our main concern needs to be cutting down turnovers offensively. I have to say the staff has done a tremendous job developing some these players.
Positives: Much faster, more explosive
Negative: Post Play, and Turnovers

Thoughts on new players:
Deemer: Pure shooter, she will put up serious points this season, definitely by far the most impressive player, only a freshman.

Bethel: She shows signs of being a very solid player, has great anticipation and speed. Needs to work on finishing and free throws.

Jones: Solid player, need to see more offensive consistency. Good rebounder.

Amichia- She really impressed me today, very good rebounder, she is physically ready for this level. I really feel good about her. She is pretty smart all well, will be a good one.

Faero: Tall, good rebound, but this level is completely different for her. Will take her a bit to catch on. Slow to react and to see things, inconsistent offensively.

Caldwell did a great job today fixing this defense up, and they will only get better with experience. We did it too without our best player Ballard. We will be very good when we hit SEC play.

The best lineup without Ballard would be:
Moncrief (G)
Deemer (G)
Hill (G)
Jones (F)
Amichia (F)

I think Caldwell likes Hill too much to take her out the lineup. Deemer may be coming off the bench, but to me I think she has deserved a starting spot. I do not think Bethel should be starting, Anne Pedersen looked impressive today as well. Rhodes and Harden are very good players coming off the bench.

I think your Pros and Cons were spot on...pretty much your entire commentary. If you look at the first few weeks of their schedule, they are playing A LOT of basketball in a short period of time...not sure how that will translate as far as helping the newbies. All in all I think our back court is super solid and I'm sure that is what Caldwell wanted. It's the front court that bothers me especially without any kind of physical center or truly physical forwards to match what we'll definitely see against South Carolina and Tennessee. I agree about Hill. I think Coach is attempting to make her or Deemer the next Kenney. And those shoes are extremely hard to fill.

I wasn't too excited about this year. I'm going to say that after the second game, I'm a lot more interested in seeing what this interesting and talented back court can do....

I think the analysis is good…but you have to be careful about being too excited based on these exhibition games. The team they played yesterday was a crappy Division 2 school who lost their 3 best players from last year.

I really am interested to see how this style of play translates against "real" competition. I want to see how Deemer is able to score against better competition.

From comments that Caldwell has made, she really seems like she has decided that Hill is her point guard. I am skeptical….but who else would you put there? Even when Ballard is playing, she is a better 2. It looks like the point guard pecking order is Hill, then Moncrief, then Harden. I think that might be a position that is a cause for concern.

Its not like Moncrief or Ballard cant do anything Hill could do. I do not like how Caldwell is trying to possibly force this. Hill is definitely improving but is not a starter by any means. I'd rather work with Deemer, at least she will get steals and put up points. She is that deep threat. She could be a better shooter in time then Jeane. We shall see but it seems Caldwell has her favorites with bethel Hill and Pedersen
