Article: LSU Tigers need to ask more of Brandon Harris

Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron should learn from the Alabama game. Fournette isn’t infallible. If you run essentially the same play over and over -- one receiver split out wide, hand off or toss to No. 7 -- you can’t expect good results. A quality defense like the Crimson Tide’s will find a way to make you do something different.

I understand the point of what you're saying, but if miles instead chose to give fournette limited carries and passed more with harris and we still lost, people would have blamed him for not using fournette more.

I've said all along we should throw more to LF7...Harris missed him once against Bama. Don't remember trying again after that.

Its tough to ask more of him when you cant put him in a position to be successful. Tough to be successful in the same 4-5 sets we have been running to the last 8-9 years.

Cut the wire to Leslie's head set and turn Cam & Harris loose.

Not in the second half. Buddy. Everyone on a team has a part / role to play. Each week it could change. How nice would it have been if the headlines the next day were.
"Bama Focus was Fournette, Harris Throttles Secondary for 325 passing!"

A phrase so nice you had to say it twice.

I like your style

The two things that stick out to me in regards to asking more of Harris happened in the Bama game. First, he had Dural on a little drive pattern and he threw it about 100mph behind him. Second, Fournette was wide the frick open with a ton of space on a circle route out of the back field and Harris again hummed it a little ahead of him. He isn't very good at short routes right now. Take a look at this route tree. Harris needs to be throwing all of these except the drive, slant and tunnel.

It’s no secret what you do in a situation like that. Any armchair quarterback could tell you that you have to keep those safeties from cheating up. You don’t have the hurl the ball deep and hope for the best. Instead, a screen, a quick pass out to a receiver, even a delayed handoff could have been used to keep the DBs honest. Mixing up tempo and alignments wouldn’t have hurt their cause.

Harris might develop into a more capable passer in the future, but for now he is what he is. And Miles and Cameron need to work with that, whether it’s calling for more high-percentage passes, rolling him out or dialing up a few more designed QB runs. Anything to take the focus off of Fournette.

This has been said on the rant since Saturday.

THIS. Times a million. Harris could have and should have had over 100 yards rushing, easily. He could have had 15 on the second offensive play of the game had he just tucked it and run for the first down after rolling out instead of throwing an incomplete pass.

Flea flick, HB pass, reverse, screen, QB runs.....Arky will be waiting on the toss dive and runs up the middle

They didn't try it again which was questionable. LF was wide open on a linebacker with only a safety between himself and the goal line. That throw and a couple of others where Harris missed wide open receivers(like the INT play)may be part of the reason the coaches were hesitant to let BH sling it. Myself, I think they should have play-actioned off of Fournette several more times, the way way the DB's were crashing on every rushing play.

We don't work on passing to him in any other game, and we wonder why we can't execute it in the biggest game of the year.

ETA: Hell, we don't work on the passing game at all much outside of the deep ball... and again we wonder why we can't execute it when we need to.

I kept waiting for them to come back to that play. It worked great except that Harris missed the throw. They never did.

Well, he was limping in the 2nd quarter so that may have had a little to do with it.

The staff needs to help him out more, absolutely. He also has to learn how to throw a touch pass.

I counted 5 incompletions to #7 and another 4 or 5 att to slot/TE. Harris isn't very adept at the short and hot stuff.
