according to the LSUsports.net schedule. How big of a game could this be in a couple of years? If TCU continues on the path that they have been on the past few years LSU could be opening the season with another top 10 match up. Are we going to start to see a continued theme of LSU starting off the season with a highly ranked team?

2012 is their first year in the Big East, they have a great chance to win that conference their first year there. Couple that in with a BCS bowl victory, you've got another top 10 matchup to start the season for LSU.

Why? It is pointless until the SEC starts losing respect. Why should we please the national crowd just to add another tough OOC game when everyone else in the SEC schedules creampuffs? We play enough good games in the SEC, we don't need more Oregons making our schedule harder. The way the system is already makes it retarded. A undefeated team like Texas can have #80 SoS and in. While we have 1 loss and #1 SoS and still don't get in the NC game.

Do you think maybe we have discovered some NCAA violations at TCU? It looks like a trend.

TCU needs LSU more than we need them. Same with Oregon. The NC game already has one slot reserved for a SEC team. TCU would need to be undefeated and a signature win in the Big East. We should getting paid out the arse to the play these games OOC. Oregon and TCU should be paying us. Due to how retarded the BCS is, they suck the SEC off, so why do we need to risk OOC with a team like that? Just doesn't make sense. Survive the SEC and you go to a NC. That is hard enough.

I think it is awesome. We only get 12 magical Saturdays of reg. season college football. And while I see your point, do you think there is anything magical about LSU beating the
brakes off of midwestern rhode island community college?
I love watching these big time OOC matchups, and LSU comes out the victor most times. It proves that we aren't scared of anyone and it makes the national media respect you. If we lost to a #2 UO in the first game of the year, dominated the SEC, and won the SECCG, we would jump an undefeated Texas, IMO.

I appreciate the sentiment but your statement isn't true.

This year Georgia is playing Boise to open and GTech every year. Auburn has Clemson. UF plays FSU. South Carolina plays Clemson. Alabama has Penn State.

Part of the reason the SEC gets the respect it does is not because of how each SEC team performs against each other, but because of how the SEC performs in OOC play against other big teams from big conferences (regular season and bowl). The SEC hasn't had a losing bowl record in a long time, that helps out a lot in conference perception. It also helps out majorly when we schedule a big game OOC like Oregon this year or TCU in 2013 and defeating these teams. If we dont schedule any good OOC teams then the conference perception takes a hit because we're beating no one but ourselves till bowl season rolls around.

Recruiting. Reason why we are playing in Dallas this year. Why we are playing a team from the Dallas area in TCU. National TV exposure. Playing these games is all for recruiting. Now, the West Virginia thing, you got me there. Still trying to figure that one out.

We actually don't OPEN with TCU at home. There is a 8/31/13 date that hasn't been scheduled yet. So, TCU will be our second game in 2013.

ETA: And in 2014, we play them @ TCU.

Yea, I get the money thing and national exposure for recruiting. It just would be extremely frustrating to see us beat someone like Bama one year, then they get the nod for NC game because their OOC was horrible and 1uped us in the SEC by one game...

Also, just my opinion but I think the SEC has been severely overrated the past two years. The SEC isn't anywhere near as top heavy as it once was. The entire East is a mess and all the power has shifted to the West. SEC certainly wasn't as dominate in bowl games this past year. You could pick at least 2 powerhouses in each side, not last year.

It use to be, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Bama, AU. You could make a argument all those programs were very strong teams. Then you'd get decent teams like Tenn, Ar-Kansas and SC. SEC was by far the best division in those times. Now it is like, LSU, Bama and MAYBE AU even though nobody expects them to be good this year. SC going to SEC Championship game was a joke last year. AU was the only true powerhouse in the SEC and they had major flaws on their their team, particularly defense. They really were a two man team it seemed like.

I agree with you on some counts, but you can't ignore the fact that the BCSNCG has been won by 7 SEC teams out of 13 total.

Please the national crowd? This should please every LSU fan. Contrast the build up for the Oregon game with what it would be if we were opening with North Texas.

I for one want to see this kind of OOC game every year

It benefits LSU. I don't give a shite about other teams creampuffs. No one is watching them.

Because various people across the country vote on who plays in the title game. If your program is a legitimate contender you have to persuade them of that.

TCU, for example, has been a very good program for a few years now, IMO the only reason they haven't played in the Big Game at the End is because of the perception of a creampuff schedule. So they are delighted to play a game against a national powerhouse. Although LSU already has the rep, you have to work to maintain it.

This is also good (IM very humble O) that this is good for players who seek to play in the NFL. They have to prove they can compete with top competition in big games.

I like the idea of LSU playing top notch quality opponents as part of our OOC schedule. Nothing would please me more than to have LSU garner the reputation of being the school unafraid to play anyone at anytime.

I agree it's so freaking dumb for us to play a tough OOC schedule when the SEC is this dominant.

It will cost us a MNC shot at some point.

SEC is definitely weaker past few years but a weaker SEC is probably better than every other conference still...
