LSU did pass for 3,000 yards two years ago. I feel like we must keep telling ourselves and the world this, because we keep hearing Les Miles doesn't like to pass.

We passed for 3,000 yards while having Jeremy Hill post the best RB numbers in LSU history. (For comparison sake, Hill averaged 1.3 more yards per carry that year than Kevin Faulk did in his best seasons.)

And before anyone tries to make the argument that Les and Cam had to pass coming into the year with talents like Landry and Beckham; Landry and Beckham were Juniors who had 500 and 700 yards the year before and a combined 7 TDs. With Hill getting 7 yards a pop, there should have been no "pressure" to get two talented juniors as many catches as they did.

Is Harris as talented as Mett? Many would say yes. Is our WR corps more talented now than then? You could argue top to bottom, it is. So why is it inevitable that we won't be slinging the ball by the end of the year?

I think we can find balance, but we had 2 ELITE WRs in their 3rd years, a 5th year QB and Jeremy Hill

I think we have a lot of talent, and a good defense. I don't think we need to go 3000 yards but we greatly improve on last year.

you mean after we have lost two games? I'm guessing we will.

I do agree that top to bottom the WR corp is probably stronger...we have some studs at WR now that hopefully will get to showcase their skills. I think Dupre can be a superstar...time will tell...but they are very deep there.

BH will be the highest drafted qb from LSU since Jarmarcus, and one of the highest drafted in the last 20 years for LSU.

Dupre could easily be projected a 1st rounder. Dural somewhere around the 2nd. Diarse will probably be drafted. That's already ahead of where the '13 WRs were drafted. Quinn will probably be drafted and Tyron Johnson could be a first or second day drafted WR.

Edit: Forgot about Chark, big wildcard there, and who knows where his potential really lies?

How about this - LSU passed for 341 yards against MSU in the loss in 2014 - even if you omit Magee's HB pass, it was just short of 300 yards from the QBs, who combined for 19/35, 297 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT - a beyond solid performance and equivalent to Mett having played that game, from a statistical standpoint.

But, what happened? Time of possession was even. MSU RUSHED for 302 yards. We rushed for 89 yards. It is a rule as old as the game. The team that:

1. Runs the ball effectively, and

2. Stops the opponent from rushing the ball effectively,

Wins 90% percent of the time. Only gimmicky offenses and turnovers tend to go against this trend.

I'm not saying passing lost us the game in 2014 - I'm saying that passing sets up the run - or at least it should at LSU and in the SEC. Passing gives you options that running doesn't - but rushing and stopping the rush are THE key competencies to winning on a consistent basis.

Yeah Harris and our receiving corps might be very good, but the 2013 quarter had a once in 20 years talent level.

Mettenberger has proven he's a borderline NFL starter. Hill is a top ten back in the NFL. Landry and Beckham are both clear cut number one receivers on good NFL teams in their second season.

Fournette is probably close to Hill, but it's expecting a hell of a lot based on what we'be seen so far for for Harris to match Mett and Dural/Malachi to match Beckham/Landry

yeah, we passed more because we had to and we were good at it.

miles is not afraid to pass when he needs to. our defense was down, forcing us to try to score more.

and those guys were fantastic.

look at your MSU statistics. we had to pass and we accumulated at least half of those passing statistics being way down late in the game.

LF7 with threat of the forward pass will shatter LSU records.

My problem is, has been, and until I see otherwise will be, LM has NEVER developed a QB he recruited. If Mett doesn't squeeze a vagina at UGA, we have a very different reality of LSU football the past 3 years.
