LSU moved up 3 spots to #15 in the AP Poll and up 4 spots to #15 in the Coaches Poll.

So think, next year at this time, we will be competing for the 11th or 12th spot in the playoffs, with 3 losses, we would still be competing for a national championship. It’s going to be so nice.

It isn’t top 12. It’s power 5 conference winners, best G5 team, and 6 at large. That doesn’t necessarily mean top 12 teams.

Brohm has done a fantastic job this year, but that Pitt loss should be a bigger albatross around their neck. Pitt is absolute dogshit, and Louisville only dropped 4 spots in the polls after that.
Apparently beating Notre Dame trumps everything though.

If we finish in the top 12, there's a good chance we will be in a New Year's Six bowl, probably the Peach.

The bowl matchups come out before the Heisman is announced (and a full day before Heisman ballots are due). So that theory is out.

Because it's a committee, not a ladder system.
In 2018 they picked No. 15 Texas over West Virginia for the Sugar Bowl even though the Mountaineers had beaten them during the season.
From the CFP bylaws:

The committee can put any 12 teams it wants in its final rankings. They don't have to duplicate the AP or coaches polls.
