The main reason he is at LSU and not Texas is because Texas wanted to move him from the start.

seems Mack Brown & his crew new RS wouldn't be a D1 QB from the start.

He has been quoted as saying he would play other positions. And, he was undoubtedly a part of this decision.

Of course he would play other positions. He's a competitor and wants to get on the field. He know's he will never be given a fair shot at QB so what's he supposed to do?

You say he played QB in spring and fall. A whole spring, and whole fall? Yeah....that's plenty of time.

And I have no idea what I'm talking about.

He knows where he stand in the depth chart. And he knows where he stands next to the guys he is competing with. And he doesnt want to lose another year or two developing at a position that multiple coaching staffs have told him wasn't his best. He wants to play. And Miles is quoted as saying this will allow him to be an every down player.

In short, Shepard sees this is his best opporunity to play. You have no idea what you are talking about.

If he gets close to that I'll be thrilled.

I must assume you would rather him ride the pine as 3rd QB instead of being on the field every play, correct?

You can say what you want but it's pretty obvious. They gave him a shot at QB and he didn't win the starting spot. Instead of maybe 5-10 plays a game as a situational QB, he will be on the field nearly every play.

This is not unprecedented. Kerry Meier was the starter at Kansas before moving to WR. Some guys just want to play and when their athleticism and skills are suitable as a starter/contributor at another position who's to say that's not where they belong.

How many HS QB's ended up playing somewhere else in college? Just on LSU's team I can think of: R. Randle, S. Ware, S. Gibson, R. Brooks, and M. Claiborne off the top of my head.

Good post. I'm tired of arguing about it though. I believe he could have been a great QB here. Nothing is gonna change my mind about it. We'll just leave it at that.

I agree, he could have been great at QB here. He still can be, but I think this is a better route for both him and the team. He could take the MF route and sit for 3-4 years and then start at QB, or do this. If this is effectively ending his chances at QB besides wildcat then it is disappointing, though.

I've been a proponent of getting the ball into his hands any way possible, so I think this is a step forward. I understand your points, though. I think we will all be happy about this move.

I think promising RS "a shot" at QB was worth it to have him here the next 3 years, no matter how bad he was utilized in during that "shot".

Doesn't matter what kind of "a shot" he gets when the coaching staff are clueless morons. He could have been the next Charlie Ward. Now he'll be the next Trindon Holliday, i.e. underutilized and poorly coached.

Some of you just won't get it until we have a humiliating, losing season. But then, the way things have gone, you might just get it this year.

He should have played there a LOT more last year. It is what he would play in the NFL anyway if that is his goal.

IMHO he should have got every offensive touch that others like Trindon or any other "backup" got last year, he's THAT good with the ball.

Yeah lets keep him at qb where he is 4th on the depth chart. The kid would never see the field except for situational plays. the only time i have seen it work on every play was when mcfadden was lighting lsu up in 07. There is no way that kid would be able to run 20 plays at wildcat a game. He should be a wr and he asked to be moved before the end of last season.

Get ready for the "But he was given a chance" crew.

He was lied to. Now he'll be wasted at WR. That's if he even plays due to the fact he's only a sophmore.

From Russell Shepard himself:

quote:

"I approached Coach Miles two days after the Florida game last year and told him that I think it's time I make a position change. He really fought me on it and told me to wait another year and see, but I said I think I will be better suited for this team at a skill position."

Nice call Bob

Shep is looking towards the NFL as a sophomore. what would help us is a top rated high school QB being a solid college dual threat QB. He can switch to WR in the NFL if he's drafted. We lose Ryan Perilloux due to off field problems, now we take our biggest recruit and switch his position. Lost...
