If taking a side trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, do not forget your passport. It is required now. Expect about 2 1/2 to 3 hours driving and getting across the border from Seattle depending on whether you hit rush hour.

As for hotels, the U District, which is where the University is, duh, is pretty fun as a college scene. There's no Chimes unfortunately. Staying downtown has its own rewards and the bus service will take you to the U District easy enough. Be ready for the panhandlers downtown and don't drive drunk downtown if you can help it!

I'm counting on my BR friends showing these Caspers how to tailgate! If anyone is planning on serious cooking, Cash n'Carry grocery has everything you need. They have a store on 4th Ave.

Go Tigers!

We are taking a trip to Olympia on Sunday. Hope we don't run into any werewolves or vampires.

We are staying at the Courtyard by the airport.

For those of you going to CA (not Cali, but the other CA) on the trip --

While you may not need your passport for the Clipper ride to Victoria (so I've heard), you sure as hell need it if you are driving to Vancouver. The CA border agents probably won't even let you into CA without it. And if you got over somehow without it, the US border agents would majorly hassle you or would not let you back in the US.

One more tip for potential first timers to CA -- If you are staying for more than one day in Vancouver, stop and get US money exchanged for Canadian dollars before the border in a bank in Bellingham. You'll get a better exchange rate.

Passports are required. And if you have any sort of FBI record of crime history, count on an Interpol record preventing you from getting across unless you want to pay a special fee of about $500. It's not East Germany but it's certainly not Aunt Millie's so be prepared to state your business, be serious, and look them in the eye. LOL!

The duty free store has some pretty good single malt deals.

Booked Westin tonight at $180.00 per night AAA rate. What time is kickoff? I know it has been changed for TV.

From the UW website:

UW's Games Vs. LSU, USC Picked For TV
Huskies will face Tigers on ESPN and USC on ABC.

SEATTLE - Two of the Washington football team's first three games have been selected for live television broadcasts, the Pac-10 Conference announced today.

The conference office announced ABC/ESPN's early-season selections. The Huskies' Sept. 5 season-opener vs. LSU, the first game under new head coach Steve Sarkisian, will air live on ESPN, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. PDT.

Two weeks later, on Sept. 19, the Huskies' home game vs. Pac-10 rival USC will be broadcast on ABC television, starting at 12:30 p.m. The game, of course, pits Sarkisian against his former team and coaching mentor, Pete Carroll.

Washington's game at Notre Dame has already been selected for broadcast by NBC. That game, at South Bend, kicks off Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m. Pacific Time.

The Pac-10 will announce Fox Sports Net and Versus' selections in June. Additionally, ESPN/ABC will announce additional broadcasts as the season goes along, generally the Monday two weeks before each game.

The Huskies have had every game broadcast on live television, between the conference's contracts with ABC/ESPN, FSN and Versus and the UW's contract with FSN Northwest.

hahahaha, I'm also TWIC'd. Since Canadians don't have to be TWIC'd here in the lower 48, I'd say it wouldn't fly.

They passed the passport rule a couple of years ago. A veritable pissing match between our Customs and their's so I hear.

Re: Driving

Made that drive year and half ago moving son to Ft. Lewis. Approx 2700 miles in 42 hours with no weather issues. Cost of gas at time about 3.40 gallon. Cheaper to fly.

If you drive, two tips. The Interstate rest areas we are use to on the Gulf Coast are paradise compared to some you will find on a drive to Seattle. Bring a pee bottle.

Second, it is against the law (or was then) to pump your own gas in Oregon.

In Oregon, people pump your gas like in the old days. It's a jobs thing there. And don't worry, you don't have to tip. LOL

I stayed at the Homewood Suites in downtown seattle.

Balcony, jacuzzi in room, separate bedroom, 2 flat screens, full kitchen, billiards room, happy hour, etc.

It was outstanding.

Well if you're going alone it's cheaper to fly, but if it's a load of 5 or 6 MUCH cheaper to drive. I've made the drive 5 times and it's a great drive once you're in CO.

Montana's speed limit is "reasonable and prudent" during daylight and WY is posted 75
