Would be cool, imo, to do a home n home with Texas in baseball.

Did y'all read that article about Hess? They are going to try and develop a changeup.. if he can master that as a third pitch, it might not be very fair for the batter.

He needs his stuff for more than 2 innings.
He will get there as he builds his strength up.

We are going to need him as a starter now for sure. I hope they get him dialed in on conditioning program. Since it appears walker may be out.

Good, lets play some teams with a pulse earlier in the year

“He’s going to go to the Cape Cod League and pitch three games with a maximum of 60 pitches,” Mainieri said.
To me this says Hess will remain a closer while at LSU.

Would be awesome to play three with Notre Dame and Texas next season. Playing shite teams every weekend to start makes the wait until SEC play starts last forever.

Because setting a 60 pitch maximum implies he's not too concerned with building the stamina it takes to being a starter. Maybe they'll work on that in the fall. Does Mainieri always put such a low pitch count on starters in summer league?

That would be fun to get some major conference teams in here. Those series with Cincinnati, Army, and who can forget... Sacramento State...have been thrilling, but the Longhorns and Irish would be some better names.

Yep, id like it to be similar every year

I will believe it when I see it. usually match ups like these require a return trip. Which LSU has done very rarely because they would rather fatten their bank account with home games. Rather than strengthen the team by facing tough competition. I hope it happens but don't hold your breath.

Hess just came off a 70-game season (not that he threw 70, but there is a wear and tear of a season, warming up in the pen, actual game action, etc.) so it may be more Mainieri trying to make sure he's not left to throw 100-120 pitches in one or more games. He hasn't been starting games, and maybe Mainieri doesn't trust that he's been built up to handle a regular starter's load.
If Hess is going to eventually start at LSU, Mainieri may be more comfortable supervising the build-up to that in the fall.

The series with the military academies was really classy, well organized, and something to be proud of.
Great job by all involved.

He does. Lange was limited in his team USA outings. He pitched out of the pen (save one "start") a couple innings here and there (9 total in three appearances, I believe). The summer isn't about stretching these guys, it is about getting the work in. The stretching is done in the fall and spring/early part of the season.
