1st time LSU scheduled Auburn and Florida away in the same season was 1992. 24 years and counting..who thinks LSU gets it done this year?

Tough call. Gainesville is always a tough game regardless how good or bad either team is and auburn seems to either be god awful or sec champs recently.

I would think it gets done this year if the team lives up to expectations. They should be good enough to take care of these teams.

Well, I just don't see LSU losing to Auburn with Kevin Steele running their Defense. So there just leaves Florida...

Auburn is a question mark haven't been following their offseason. If they're about the same or even a little better than they were last year, we should be okay..

And Florida will be tough. Even during their down years, going into the swamp is dangerous. We should've beat them by atleast 21 last year. But special teams almost cost us the game.

I say we get it done on our way to the SEC championship game

Fournette owns UF and Harris is literally going to have a career day against the "Steele Curtain".

We went 2-9 in '92 and won ZERO road games.

1992 was LSU's worst year in modern times. 2-9 with wins over Miss St and Tulane.

Out coached in Florida. Lose 27 to 24.
Out coached in Auburn. Win 34 to 20.

Florida always has it out for us bad and they seem particularly salty this year. That combined with the swamp is a scary combo and shouldn't be taken lightly imo

LSU hasn't beaten both Auburn and Florida on the road in the same season in my lifetime. Of course, I'm only 33 years old, and we only played Auburn twice in the first ten years of my life.

How did the SEC schedule work back in those days, pre the '92 expansion?

When it comes to the SEC schedule and trends like these, I give much credence to them.

Another interesting SEC stat or trend is LSU has been to the national championship game in '03, '07, and '11.

So, for both of these trends to stay intact, LSU would likely play in the SECCG, and losing to FL makes this more likely.

Well that trend was broken last year.

How does losing to Florida make it more likely?

Very disjointed until the late 70's with some major modifications in 1972. Lets just go with LSU. Starting in 1972, LSU played these 5 SEC teams every year: Alabama, Florida,Kentucky,Ole Miss and Miss State. We would rotate home and home with the other 4 SEC teams--Auburn (72/73),Tennessee(74/75),Vanderbilt (76/77) and Georgia (78/79).This was then repeated through the 1987 season and then we played the same 5 "fixed" teams and two others from 1988 through 1991.

Prior to 1972 there was little consistency with scheduling. Teams had to play "6" conference games and for whatever reason some teams would have "assigned" non conference games count as SEC games. That practice lasted through 1968, where LSU only played FOUR actual SEC teams.TCU and Tulane counted as SEC games that season. The practice ended in 1969 which hurt LSU as we went 4-1 in SEC play and champion Tennessee went 5-1.

LSU and the Vols both lost in Jackson to Ole Miss. LSU lost 26-23 and Tennessee lost 38-0.

Teams still played more than 6 conference games from time to time until 1978. Alabama lost to Auburn 17-16 in 1972, but won the SEC has they were 7-1 in league play and Auburn was 6-1.
